The war in Ukraine began in 2014 with the Russian invasion of Crimea and the Donbas region. On February 24th, 2022 Russian forces escalated the war and began an attempt to invade and occupy the whole country. Life for many Ukrainians has been hard since 2014, and the February invasion has made it much harder. Many have died and millions are refugees. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian men and women are fighting on the frontlines. Others are trapped in Russian-occupied territory. Some are living in cities under frequent shelling or missile attacks. Life in wartime Ukraine comes in many forms.
