Hello and welcome to the (first?) Turn Based Dungeon Crawler Jam! As you might've inferred from the name this jam is about making a turn based dungeon crawler in some way within 2 months. I'm pretty loose about what "turn based dungeon crawler" means so you can be super creative with how you interpret and create your game.
Basically:
1. It has to take place in some sort of enclosed space. This could be a literal dungeon prison or maybe a cave or castle, as long as its enclosed!
2. It has to have some sort of turn based element to it. This could be turn based combat, movement, anything!
THEME:
This will be announced when the jam starts. Basically it's a word or phrase that you have to integrate into your game in some way. Like for instance if the theme was "unstable" you would have to find a way to incorporate instability into the game. Maybe through a game mechanic or the story or maybe just as a tiny part of the game. It's really just a guideline for ideas.
RULES/GUIDELINES:
1. Make a turn based dungeon crawler in some way
2. You can prototype stuff like characters/concepts/art before the jam starts but try to make the majority of the game in the time period. You can use general purpose assets (like movement scripts, base models, and the like) but just make sure you make most of the game within the frame of the jam. Also make sure to credit any assets you use!
3. You can work as a team or by yourself! There's no limit to how many people you can have but you probably wanna keep your group pretty tight knit.
4. You can use any engine as long as it runs on windows (RPG Maker, Godot, Game Maker, Unity, Unreal, Ren'Py, Scratch??? Anything). You can even make a mod/romhack of a pre-existing game.
5. Tag any NSFW material appropriately in the description of the game.
6. NO GEN AI
TIPS:
1. Try to keep the scope small. Aim to make something that could be completed in an hour or maybe just a few minutes.
2. Don't be scared to re-use assets. Also the public domain is your friend don't be afraid to use free resources online as well! You can find all sorts of stuff right here on itch.io so use what you can to fill in the gaps in your game.
3. Try to get the main mechanics implemented as completely as possible before polishing things up with art and the like.
4. Don't put too much pressure on yourself! It's all just for fun! If you can't get everything you want done in the time frame or things aren't as polished as you'd like don't beat yourself up about it. You can always work more on it later.
INSPIRATION:
For those unfamiliar with dungeon crawlers who feel they need some inspiration for their project here are some dungeon crawler/dungeon crawler adjacent games you can check out to get some ideas.
