Get inspired! Here's a look at past entries:
The Trans Representation Jam is a non-ranked Jam without any pressure; just have fun creating and sharing your queer art! The purpose of this jam is to create more creative works that have trans representation in them in a chill environment. Feel free to @TransRepJam and use the #transrepjam when posting about your games and other work in progresses on Bluesky! Alternatively, you can also join our Discord and share your progress there. :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The theme is all about trans representation! That means at least one major character in your work has to be transgender or a major part of the story has to be about the trans experience.
While the jam has a focus on video games and TTRPGs, we also allow other kinds of fiction, such as comics, written stories and zines to be submitted! If you have a creative idea for a trans centered work and aren't sure if you can submit it, feel free to ask in a community post or on our discord. :)
Additionally, there is an optional theme this year:
To a lot of trans people, there are movies, games and other media that have inspired us and our journey when we were younger. This year, the theme of 'nostalgia' invites you to celebrate your journey and make art reminiscing about the work that brought you here. But you're free to interpret this theme however you'd like. :)

✧ You have to finish and upload your finished work or a demo within the jam period.
✧ You can begin developing assets and code before the start of the jam.
✧ For demos, short stories, small zines and <10 page comics a majority of the work should be done during the jam period.
✧ Games that have already finished development before the jam may only be submitted if you release a major content update for the game within the jam period.
✧ Your entry has to feature trans representation, that should be referenced or acknowledged within the game or in the game description to an appropriate amount. (More in the Q&A)
✧ Be respectful and informed. Entries endorsing any form of racism, ableism, homophobia or transphobia are not allowed.
✧ Any entries containing AI-generated content will be removed from the jam submissions. This includes AI generated work that's been altered by hand. If you try to pass off your entry as non-AI-generated and we find out, you will be banned from participating in future TRJs.
✧ If your game deals with topics that some may find uncomfortable, please include a content warning screen. For other kinds of works, make sure to include a content warning on the itch.io page or as a page at the beginning of the pdf.
And most importantly:
✧ Have fun!

Q: Is there a Discord?
A: Yes! https://discord.gg/S2xkNkSQRQ
---------------------------------------
Q: Is there a hashtag that I can use to post my work?
A: The hashtag is #transrepjam. Please also @ the Bluesky account of TRJ so we can retweet your post! :)
---------------------------------------
Q: Can I submit my game to other jams aswell?
A: Sure! As long as it still abides by all the rules. :)
---------------------------------------
Q: Can I submit a TTRPGs/Tabletop/Card game?
A: Yes. Any game allowed!
---------------------------------------
Q: Can I use assets that aren't mine?
A: As long as the assets are not AI, yes. But make sure you have the rights to use them and properly credit any third party assets that you use (unless they do not require you to.)
---------------------------------------
Q: What if I'm not sure if an asset pack I aquired is AI?
A: It is always best practice to ask an asset pack creator if they have in progress shots or timelapses of their work, if those aren't already provided on their page. If they do not, it is better to stay on the side of caution and not use their work.
---------------------------------------
Q: What if I used an AI asset pack on accident? Will I get banned?
If you use AI on accident and own up to your mistake, you will not be banned. Your game will still not be accepted for the jam until all AI content has been removed, but you may rejoin in future jams.
---------------------------------------
Q: Can I work in a team?
A: Yes!
---------------------------------------
Q: Where can I find a team?
A: You could post about it in the community-tab or join our Discord to find someone!
---------------------------------------
Q: May I submit more than one game? And may I submit multiple projects in different fields? (i.e. a game, a comic and a zine)
A: As many as you want!
---------------------------------------
Q: Why can I start on my submission before the jam starts? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a jam?
A: The main purpose of this jam is encouraging creatives to finish their work and inspire more trans characters and stories along the way. Trj simply provides a deadline to those who need it, with hopefully plenty of time to prepare. It's not a competition; it's a community event for creative trans people and allies who also want to tell stories about us. :D
---------------------------------------
Q: What does "trans representation should be referenced to an appropriate amount" mean?
A: It means that we need to know for sure that your entry was made with trans representation in mind. Every year a lot of completely irrelevant games get submitted to the jam and we just need to have some way of telling if your game belongs as part of this jam or not. In the past it was required to have some kind of clear reference to the trans elements in the game, be it visual or part of the text, but in consideration of less visible representation, a proper nod to it in the itch page description will also suffice. (If you already have it referenced in the work itself, you don't need to reference it in the description as well, only if you'd like to.) If you need help setting up your page once it is ready, feel free to ask for pointers in the Discord !
---------------------------------------
Q: Can my entry be NSFW?
A: Yes, if it is properly tagged as such. If the work is found to be exploitative or fetishizing towards trans people or depicting illegal material it will be disqualified from the jam and you may be banned from participating in further TRJs depending on the severity of your offense.
