About the Jam

Tokimeki Memorial is a legendary series that, for the most part, has never officially left Japan. This jam is an open invitation for fans of the series to create and share similar experiences with a wider audience—especially for those who can't access the originals due to language barriers or technical hurdles.

Whether you are a long-time fan of the "Stat-builder/Dating Sim" subgenre or a developer looking to experiment with a different style of gameplay and narrative, this is the place for you!

What is a Dating Sim?

"A dating sim (or dating simulation) is a video game subgenre of simulation games, usually Japanese, with romantic elements. The most common objective is to date, usually choosing among several characters, and to achieve a romantic relationship. The gameplay often involves managing a schedule to improve the protagonist's statistics (such as intelligence, charisma, or fitness) to meet the requirements of specific love interests." — Adapted from Wikipedia

The Theme: Shooting Star 🌠

The theme for this jam is Shooting Star.

You are free to interpret this theme however you like! It could be a literal cosmic event that changes the characters' lives, a deep wish or longing hidden in a character's heart, or even a metaphor for the fleeting nature of youth and romance. Whether it’s a central plot point or a subtle background element, feel free to make it your own.

FAQ

  1. Does it have to be a school setting? Not necessarily! While the inspiration comes from high-school sims, you can set your game in an office, a fantasy world, or even space. As long as it captures the spirit of the genre, any setting is welcome.
  2. Can I use pre-made assets? Yes, as long as you have the legal right to use them and they are not AI-generated. However, remember that all original graphic assets or code for the jam must be created during the development month!
  3. Are there any prizes? Although this is a ranked jam, please note that we will not have a prize this time, other than the recognition and feedback you receive from the community and fellow participants. We sincerely apologize for this, but we hope you find the experience of creating and sharing your work rewarding!
