It's awesome to participate in gamejams to learn new things, work with new people, and enjoy the process, but they rarely focus on commercial viability. The Sellout Jam throws rules to the wind focused on a single goal: sell your game. What can you make from start to finish with the most commercial viability in ~20 days?
Don't make something cool and fun to make, make something that people want to play and are willing to pay for.
There are no restrictions on what you can/cannot use for this jam, but we do require that your project is started for this jam. We will remove submissions of pre-developed games; this is not a platform for you to advertise your existing game. Need to start your game a couple days ahead of time because you need to submit early? That's fine.
And what do you have to compete against/for? Yourself and your bank account. That's right: there's no judging or prizes for this jam. This will be a collective coworking experience of indies trying to optimize game development for commercial success.
No, the only theme for this jam is commercial viability. We may announce some minor themes to incorporate into your game as a bonus/extra challenge.
Itch is great for many things, but real commercial viability isn't quite one of them. You're welcome to release to other platforms for more visibility, but you need to make an Itch game/page that links to the other store (and optionally provide a build on Itch if you'd like to do both).
