Welcome to the Queer Medieval Jam! The world’s first jam(citation needed) seeking to give you an incentive to create medieval-ish fantasy-ish stories featuring queer characters!

🔞This is an unranked jam for adults only! Naturally, you are not required to include nsfw content, but the stories should be meant for adults.

What can I submit?

  • Stories featuring queer characters of relevance (protagonists, antagonists, etc.). Ask yourself: Would the story happen the same way if that character got removed? If not, they are plenty relevant.
  • Projects both old and new: You can submit finished projects, as well as start a new one before the jam even officially starts. It’s all fair game.
  • Any genre, any style, any tone! Cozy? Dark? Slice of life? Spicy? It’s all on the menu.
  • Any medium! Books, visual novels, comics, games, TTRPGs, etc.
  • Any language! Doesn’t have to be in English.
  • Multiple submissions are allowed!
  • Original work only! No fan works please.
  • Human-made work only! No genAI/LLM slop is or will ever be allowed

I am planning on creating a bundle with the works submitted to this jam some time after the submission period is over. Stay tuned! Please keep in mind I can only add works to the bundle written in languages I can understand (English, German, Japanese)!

FAQ

What qualifies as queer?
You have a better grasp on your characters than anyone else. If you made them (lowkey or blatantly) queer, they count. Additionally, your characters’ identities can, but do not have to be a driving force for the plot.

Do I need to be queer myself?
Everyone is welcome. I will neither police anyone’s identity, nor do I require disclosure of any kind.

What qualifies as medieval? Does it have to be fantasy?
Any story taking heavy inspiration from the middle ages counts. Think castles, knights, the state of tech at that time, social hierarchies, loyalty and duty vs. personal desires, etc. Naturally, your submission does not have to take inspiration from the European middle ages.
Fantastical elements are not required but always welcome.

Are team projects allowed?
Of course! Both solo creators and teams are welcome.

Is there a theme?
Just go buck-wild. But if you need a theme: How about tournaments?
