Welcome Gamedevs!

Welcome to a game jam that'll test your developing skills, from your programming to your game design!

This is actually the second Main Mechanic Jam but let's pretend the first one isn't there!

This jam is all about making a main mechanic for a chosen game genre, you can plan and create assets(for code, just simple things like player controllers, UI handlers and the basics) that you can for this jam before it officially starts!

You'll also be given 5 optional themes that you can use as inspiration for the jam!

Also you should probably read the rules or something idk...

Genre:

IDK, ask the host

Rules:

  • Technical development starts when the jam starts!
  • You can use any assets you are allowed to use.
  • Design and planning is allowed to be done before the jam starts since the genre is revealed before it starts!
  • The genre is Shooter
  • Don't make anything that'd offend a responsible parent of a 13 year old.
  • If you read the rules then you're a nerd lmaooooo
  • Have fun!!!

Optional Themes:

  • Return to Sender
  • Is it there?
  • Bad Magic Idea
  • Futuristic Artifact
  • Shake Rattle & Rule

What do the voting criteria mean?

Mechanic Design

Mechanic design is how well thought out and interesting the main mechanic is to tinker and play with, like let's looks at Baba Is You's main mechanic. Baba Is You has this main mechanic where you can control the rules of the level, sometimes the world, by moving on a grid using this fluffy rabbit(I think it is) named Baba.  That is a good mechanic design that led to an indie success. Who knows you might create a main mechanic that could lead to your success (or your failure).

Application

Application is how the small demo/game shows how well the mechanic is applied to the genre and how it is used to interact with the demo/game's world. Like how Mario can use Cappy to capture not only enemies but some other objects and interact with NPCs in Super Mario Odyssey!

Relativity to genre

This criteria checks on how much of the game actually still acts like the chosen genre, you never know that maybe you made a game for a totally different genre.

Originality

Kind of self-explanatory but this is all about how original the idea of this mechanic is.

Fun Factor

One of if not the most important things in gamedev is having the player enjoy playing the game, if you fail this criteria then this means that you missed something important(It's most probably going to show up during voting lmao).
