Horror games have always been one of my favorites. Wrapping myself in a blanket in my chair in a dark room with noise-canceling headphones always started off the night with a smile and a racing heart, ready to face the horrors ahead.
Games such as Outlast, Dark Souls, The Evil Within, Dead Space, and the Darkest Dungeon all have left us on the edge of our seats with nightmares and experiences like never before. It was these experiences ( and many more ) that lead me to start a studio, https://tri-powered-games.com
If you start now when I made this ( August 28th, 2022 ), you'll have about two months to put something together and submit it! The end result can be a completely finished game, a simple demo, or a "vertical slice". Don't let skill deter you, this doesn't have any skill requirements, the goal is to just create some fun and interesting horror games in ode to the greats.
See the rules below for more details. You can use new or pre-existing projects you have for this.
RPG Horror games are known for their ANTs! Be sure to incorporate these features into your game:
- Atmosphere: 3D graphics with mood-setting sounds; ( pixel, retro, low-poly, or HDRP are all fine, choose what you like )
- Narrative: creative story, plot, and/or world that often has multiple or twist endings
- Tone: surreal, "off", mysterious, or creepy tones are common. Horror takes many forms, use your imagination!
JAM RULES:
- You may work on a new, ongoing, or old project as long as it fits the theme/s of the jam! If you are using assets without appropriate permissions or credits your game will be removed from the jam and potentially removed from Itch.io itself. Don't let your game work go to waste.
- Work on your project's assets/ game code/ and events is allowed before the jam starts and after it ends. You can work solo or with friends!
- You can use Unity to create the game, and any assets you'd like, so long as you credit them.
- Be kind to each other; and remember this is a celebration 🥳
SUBMISSION GUIDE:
In order for your game to be accepted into the jam, you'll need to meet a few of these minimum requirements for your demo or completed game.
- Please include a credits page in your game or game files. Attribution is an important part of any form of art. Credits should include contributors' names and/or sites you got free assets from and of course names of the people in your team. Check out this handy thread if you need more info on what to include in a credits page: https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/2sykzx/what_to_write_in_the_credits/
- Don't forget to make your game's page look nice, otherwise you may not get many people looking at it. Be sure to include a cover image and description on your game page.
- If you're on Twitter feel free to share your project with the tag #TheHorrorsForetold ( @tri-powered-games )
Can't wait to see what you create!
