This jam is now over. It ran from 2021-11-19 08:57:00 to 2022-03-16 04:14:00. View 1 entry
Have you ever made a game¹? Would you like to make a game¹? Well good news! This is kind of not that. The Exjamsion is a jam for making expansion content for another² game. First and fore most an expansion is not independently complete, it is reliant on another game to be complete, theoretically. You may find you make an expansion and it has several complete forms; this is normal.
1: Game: This jam is primarily for "TTRPGs", which is a very broad field. Many things that qualify for this jam do not feature Table Tops, and may be in complex discussion with what "role playing" means
2: Other games: Your expansion should apply to one or more other games you have or will make
The Exjamsion runs from the november 2021 lunar eclipse to the may 2022 lunar eclipse with 6 Megadeadlines³, 3 Gigadeadlines, and 2 Gibideadlines
Date | Megadeadline | Gigadeadline | Gibideadline |
December 4th | x | ||
January 2nd | x | x | |
Febuary 1st | x | x | |
March 2nd | x | x | |
April 1st | x | ||
April 30 | x | x | x |
At the fall of each megadeadline turn your face to the sky and welcome the moon who abandons you in this dark night. Offer your heart and breath deep knowing you will find success in some form. You can release your 6 expansions at any point, before or after the megadeadlines, but it'd be super cool if you made all 6
If this pace is too much, feel free to: Use gigadeadlines instead, use gibideadlines instead, or do whatever
3: this doesn't mean anything
Your Expansion must:
Your expansion should:
Your expansion may:
Your expansion must not:
I am capable of imagining the value in games that deal with hate and abuse, and I can imagine that it may be nice to approach these themes through an expansion rather than a full game. Expansions that are themselves hateful or abusive will be removed.
4: Nobody has asked me any questions
What if I haven't written a game?
Write and/or plan to write a game, then make an expansion for that plan.
What if I want to write an expansion for somebody else's game?
What if you wrote a game based on that game, and put out an expansion?
But why?
If you release an expansion that is contingent on your other game, then people will tend to look at and download both, which is generally beneficial to you. Expansions are also an interesting domain where you are creating additional or replacement content for a thing that does or will exist, rather than starting from scratch. This is in some ways easier, and others harder, and you have a lot of control over which ways you engage with. This makes an expansion potentially very easy, and rewarding, which is super valuable.
You want me to make 6 expansions? Why?
Yes. Momentum. Make 6 expansions, over however many months. You will exit this jam having made several expansions, building a body of work surrounding your other work, and having released several things.
Can I submit a text file?
Yes, gladly, might I recommend markdown, but unstructured text is plenty great.
Should I do an april fools flavored expansion for the April 1st megadeadline?
I don't control the moon, that's just when it was. Do what you want, the moon is a pirate.
