Build your first game. Get real feedback. Start your gamedev journey.
Welcome to The Builder Jam! This jam is specifically designed for beginners, aspiring creators, and anyone taking their very first steps into the world of game development.
Entering a game jam can be intimidating, but this is a safe, supportive space to learn, experiment, and actually finish a project. No matter your skill level, you are welcome here!
๐ก The Core Promise: You Build, I Review!
The biggest challenge for a new developer is getting people to play your game and give you constructive notes. Every single fair submission to this jam will be played and reviewed by the host. You will receive honest, encouraging, and actionable feedback to help you improve on your next project.
๐ ๏ธ The Rules & Requirements
To keep things fair and fun for everyone, please make sure your submission follows these guidelines:
- Solo or Teams: You can work completely alone or team up with friends.
- Timeframe: All game assets and code must be created within the designated jam period.
- Engine & Tools: You can use any game engine you like (Unity, Unreal, Godot, GameMaker, RPG Maker, Scratch, etc.).
- Premade Assets: You are allowed to use free or purchased third-party assets (art, music, code templates), but you must credit the creators in your game's description.
- Platform: Your game should ideally be playable in a web browser (WebGL) or downloadable for Windows. If it runs on a browser, more people will play it!
- Keep it Safe: No NSFW (adult content), hate speech, or offensive material. Let's keep the community friendly.
๐ How Games Will Be Judged
Don't worry about making a perfect, bug-free masterpiece. Games will be evaluated on three simple criteria:
- Fun/Gameplay: Is the game engaging to play?
- Creativity: How unique is your take on the theme?
- Effort: Did you push yourself to learn something new?
๐ How to Get Started
- Click the Join Jam button.
- Wait for the official theme announcement at the start of the jam.
- Brainstorm, build, and don't forget to take breaks!
- Submit your game before the deadline.
Note to Beginners: Don't try to build the next massive open-world RPG. Keep your scope small, focus on one fun mechanic, and aim to finish. A finished 2-minute game is infinitely better than an unfinished masterpiece!
Good luck, builders! Let's make something awesome.
