Hello fellow game devs! Me (Ioni) and my RMIT Games Design buddy Luke (kwikstop in Itch.io) have decided to make a game jam!

As you can tell by the name, the Jam's premise is to make a game themed around death, using a 1-bit art style. The interpretation is meant to be loose and not at all strict, hence, both aspects are open to whatever you like!

For those of you who were left confused about what 1-bit art style means, briefly speaking, it is art inspired by very old retro games that didn't have enough processing power to load too many colours. Hence, in this case, 1 colour overall and a background colour. Here are a couple of popular valid examples of games with such style (or similar) for reference:

You're going to want to find some time for Minit - Polygon

Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt on Steam

Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt (2014)

Return of the Obra Dinn on Steam

Return of the Obra Dinn (2018)

This is a quick 2 day jam, you can but aren't required to work in groups, and there are no winners, just getting the games finished and expanding our game portfolios is the end goal, and of course, having fun!

In conclusion, here are the main elements to keep in mind when making your game:

  • Central theme: DEATH
  • Art Style: 1-BIT
  • You can but don't need to work in groups.
  • You must only start working at the 22nd, and must finish and submit it by the end of 23rd of June, 2020.

If you have any questions or suggestions, contact me or Luke in the discord:

Good luck to all of you fellow gamers, hope we all have a wonderful time!
