This jam is now over. It ran from 2018-08-27 04:00:00 to 2018-09-03 04:00:00.

We are Juhana and Jim, two interactive fiction creators who were intrigued by the possibility space between Inform and Twine.

Over the past few years we’ve been iterating on a free authoring tool called Texture. We're doing this jam to give people a structure to create a game with the tool, as well as offering feedback support and some ways to get your game to an audience. Fun fact: One of Jim and Juhana's first collaborations, Guilded Youth, started as a jam game, and a revised version won 3rd place in IFComp 2012.

WHAT IS TEXTURE?

Texture Writer Might be the Best Interactive Fiction Tool for Beginners --Killscreen

Easy to play: We created a word-on-word interaction mechanic suitable for touchscreen phones and tablets, as well as web browsers.

Easy to create: Our WYSIWYG editor makes composition and design a right-brained, no code affair — right in the browser.

Easy to share: Click a button to publish in our Public Library and publicly share your work on social media. Or download an .html file to host it on itch.io (or your own server) or share via email.

Try these games people have made! Or:

Want to see how the editor works? Go to "My Projects" at the top of the Texture Writer homepage (or click here) and do the 10 minute tutorial. You might also want to sign up for an account, but you don't need to.

BONUSES!

  • Jim will be available via the forums or group chat so jammers can ask questions while they familiarise themselves with the tool.
  • After the jam, he will give feedback on your draft for your revisions if you want.
  • The IFComp, the largest interactive fiction competition in its 24th year, will be accepting submissions until Sept 28th if you want to submit it. This will get your game in front of hundreds -- maybe thousands -- of IF fans. (However, it'll mean you can't publicly publish your game until October.)
