Welcome one and all  to our 2021 Prototyping Game 
Jam.


After having studied programming, design and management at the School of 

Games in cologne over the last half a year, the students have been asked to pour all  they learned into these projects and create, show and market their own take on the 2D Puzzle Game Genre. 


Who:

Showing off their work in this Jam are the Students of the 3 different studies at the School of Games: Game Programmer, Game Business PLUS and Game Artist.The projects playable are the result of the hard work of up to 15 different groups mostly consisting of at least 1 programmer and 1 artist. The game jam itself on the other hand  was created by the business students of the School of Games. Supporting the students along the way, answering questions and providing scaffolding are the teachers Kevin Glapp, Utz (wie heißt er mit nachnamen?), and Thorsten Sendler.


Why: 

As part of their study at the School of Games, each student has to go through a combination of theory and practical applications in what we call prototyping. Unlike their first prototyping, which happened within the first week of their new school year and consisted mainly of analog working on board/card games, this second prototyping aims to strengthen the practical applications of their studies. Allowing Games Programmers to code proper game mechanics, letting the Games Artists create digital designs for characters and surroundings, whilst confining it into a manageable genre, this prototyping is the perfect environment for the rather new students to test out their potential and interests. To practice their understanding of marketability and design concepts regarding presentation, the business students were asked to create a platform on which the games can be later viewed, downloaded and played. Therefore this Game Jam was chosen as a sorta “Showroom” and “Marketplace”


What:

Much like any other Game Jam, the SoG Prototyping Game Jam sets out certain criterias for submissions.

  1. Each submission must come from a group of students of Game 
  2. Programming/Game Artists
  3. Each game must use 2D Grpahics
  4. Each game must entail some sort of puzzle mechanic
  5. The games are not supposed to be platformers/jump `n` runs
  6. Worlmaps/World Overviews  must be presented Top-Down

Since this is still a school project, each game/group is getting graded based on criteria selected by the teachers.

This allows us to create a voting system based on more particular criterias

Each participant can vote on one of the following aspects:

  1. Cutest Design
  2. Hardest Puzzles
  3. Most creative art design
  4. Most creative mechanic
