Welcome to the 2nd ever Bi-Annual IVGD Frogjam, Summer 2022 Edition!

This is a private event hosted by IVGD students, for current students and alums of the IVGD program.

Why we created this game jam?

Cohort 9 being almost entirely virtual, a conversation started about getting a chance to know each other and participating in an event together sounded like a great idea. At the end of last semester, a game jam idea emerged, so we put it together for our cohort and during the winter break, we spent 2 weeks using all the knowledge we gained during our first semester, and turning it into some cool ideas, which we shared at a showcase after the deadline.

Game jams are a fun way to test ideas, try something new and think out of the box. But we also know that life is busy and cramming everything in 1 or 2 days is not always easy (plus let's be honest, most of us just finished a grueling semester and want to take it easy). Work-Life balance is important to us and so we decided to have a longer event, so crunching doesn't have to be a thing.

The Rules

  1. Your game must include a frog, in some way or another. The frog has become quite the mascot for Cohort 9 so what better way to memorialize them!
  2. Event participants must be current or past students, including alumni.
  3. Teams of 2 or more, no solo projects. Part of the Frogjam is to network and make games together with your fellow colleagues from IVGD.
  4. Your game must be uploaded to Itch for public consumption on June 5th at 11:59:59 PM.. Most of us when we started at IVGD had never published games before and it's a hurdle to get over in our game development journeys. This is a great chance to get to know the basics of the process and get your creativity out into the world!
  5. 3rd party assets are allowed but with a couple of caveats. We highly encourage you to use the skills you have gained to create your own assets, but we understand that it's not always possible.
    1. No paid assets, any that you use should be available to the public
    2. Games will be published so assets should allow you legally to release your game commercially
    3. This rule does not apply to editor tools

Frogjam Theme

Join us for the Frogjam theme reveal May 29th at 1pm EST on the Frogjam Discord server. For those who can't be there with us, we'll make sure to have the theme posted for all to see as soon as we announce it!

Showcasing Our Games

The weekend following the event, on June 11th around 1pm EST, we will be holding a showcase. We will get together online on our Frogjam Discord server in the Lounge channel where we will take turns presenting our games, sharing our experiences, and commenting on each other’s games. This will be a great opportunity to get feedback, which is essential to our industry, so we highly recommend that you take the time during the week after the submission date to try out all the other games and leave comments on their respective pages!
