What is ACM Studio Snowjam?

It's a casual 48-hour game jam where you get to chill and make something fun! Since it takes place in December, it will have a wintery theme, thus the name ❄️"Snowjam."❄️

Do we need to apply to join the jam?

If you want to participate, all you need to do is fill out this signup form and join our Discord server. There is no application. 

How much experience do I need to participate?

None! Game jams are a great way to learn game development and pick up new skills, so everyone is welcome 🥰

How will teams be organized?

Anyone who filled out the form will be sorted into a team by the ACM Studio officers. We will pair people who want to work with each other first. If you don’t have anyone particular you would like to work with, we’ll be organizing teams by role, such that each team has a sufficient number of programmers 🖥️, artists 🎨, composers 🎵, etc.

What can I do to prepare?

1. Create a Unity account, and download + install Unity. (We recommend the 2020.3.15f version because that's the version we taught tutorials in. However, any other LTS version should be fine as well).
2. Create an account on itch.io (the site you're on right now), a great free platform for hosting games!
3. Practice and learn. Check out the many tutorials and resources in the Studio Resource Bank (found in the #resources channel).
4. Take care of yourself and your health! It’s winter break, so feel free to take a breather and relax if you’re feeling stressed ☕!

What is the schedule like?

The jam will start on Wed, Dec. 15 6:00 PM PST and end on Fri, Dec. 17 6:00 PM PST. We’ll be having a kickoff ceremony at 6:00 PST on Discord, where the theme will be revealed 👀.

Will games be ranked?

Games will not be ranked on itch.io, but feel free to rank your game first in your heart 🥇💖

When will we get the theme and what is it for?

The theme will be announced during our ✨ kickoff ceremony on Discord at 6:00 PM PST .✨The theme will be used to guide the direction for your game! Feel free to be creative and interpret the theme as loosely as you would like.

Do I need to be a programmer to participate?

Nope! Game development truly is an interdisciplinary field, so whatever role you fall into, be it artist 🎨 , a writer 🖊️, musician 🎵, or anything else, you are an essential member of the team 💪🏆
