Welcome Everyone!

The Student Summer Game Jam is an online game jam intended for students of all skill levels willing to test their interests and connect with like minded people. Although intended for students, everyone and anyone is encouraged to join!

From July 2nd to July 5th, students from all schools can compete in teams of up to 4 members to create a feature length game over the course of 90 hours. Monetary awards of up to 40 dollars will be available.

We hope to foster an environment where students of any skill level can experience the full process of game development and share their progress with fellow developers and passionate students. Q&A sessions hosted by industry professionals with focus on both design and art will also take place during the weekend of the jam to give interested  students a better understanding of the industry.  Resources for game development will be shared as well.

Eligibility

Anyone is welcome to join, but you must be a student in a team of up to 4 people in order to be eligible for winning a prize.

Restrictions

Nothing! All engines are allowed (including Scratch), and assets that are not self made can be used in the competition as long as properly credited. Just note that custom made assets will help projects to score higher in the design criteria. Projects with custom made assets are also eligible to win prizes for original artwork.

Signing Up

Only one person from every team is required to sign up for the game jam by joining using this page. However, please make sure that your itch.io account uses an email address that you regularly check, as important communication from us will be sent to it. Any involved team members can later be attributed by including their itch.io account name when submitting your game.

Submission Requirements

A functioning game that runs on windows, mac or in a web browser is the only required submission. Submitting a game design document detailing an overall design plan for the game can optionally also be submitted which can help to improve scoring in the design criteria. All submissions must be submitted by July 5th, 12pm through this itch.io jam site. The results of the competition will be revealed after 1 week, and will be published through email.

Theme

The theme for this jam is mixing genres! As an example, Undertale is a game that mixes the RPG and bullet hell genres through its unique combat system. This is just one way that you could incorporate the theme into your game; You might choose to mix genres of music, or have character archetypes of different genres. As long as it links to the theme somehow, go for it and let your creativity shine!
