Stealing the Throne is a storytelling game of epic giant robot heists. It's zero-prep and GMless, built for action-filled one-shot play. It's also a framework for just about any high-action heist you can imagine. The core engine is simple, easy to learn and easy to hack. And that's what this jam is all about: taking Stealing the Throne's engine or its implied galactic-scale setting and making cool new stuff!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Playsets: Stealing the Throne includes four playsets for thousand-year-old giant mecha. Why not build a new one, or experiment with the format?
  • Rules mods: Add a new phase to the game's planning/heist/getaway structure? Make playing card suits matter? Something else?
  • Hacks: Use the engine (or pieces of it) to build your own game. Change the theme, use the structure for a completely different type of action-filled one-shot, or trying something even weirder!

JAM RULES

Make something for or inspired by Stealing the Throne. Maybe it's a new Throne playset, an expansion, or a modification to the basic rules. Maybe it's a full-blown hack: Stealing the Tome? Stealing the Chrome? Stealing Ramon? Feel free to interpret this rule widely!

Price it however you like. Free, pay what you want, real dollar amounts — it's all good, and totally your call. If you want tips on providing free community copies, reach out and I can show you how.

Keep it inclusive. If it's racist, ableist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynist, or in any way bigoted, it doesn't belong here. Please be good to each other.

Physical games, probably. Stealing the Throne is an analog tabletop storytelling game. If you want to submit something else to the jam, I'm probably not going to stop you, but this jam is really focused on physical games.

SOME TOOLS

  • Stealing the Throne: The heist game that this jam is all about!
    • You can also find an earlier iteration of the game in the December 2020 issue of in*die zine — the basics are all the same, so if that's what you've got, you're still good to go.
  • Fonts: Stealing the Throne uses Winter Solstice for headings and Lato for body text. Lato is free, Winter Solstice is not.
  • Discord: If you want to chat about your plans and ideas, feel free to drop by the ickbat games discord!

Stealing the Jam will be open for submissions from the 1st December 2021 through to the 31st Jan 2022.
