Let's make Spoopy games a thing!

Are you a fan of Halloween but you get easily scared? This is your jam! Let's have fun while creating non-horror Halloween theme games. Skeletons, witches, werewolves, and vampires can be funny, cute, or friendly. Horror games are just bad propaganda. We can fight back making this Halloween spoopy!

Are you not convinced yet?

Well, you don't need to hate horror movies/games to participate. We all have flaws. The most important thing is that you want to have fun and be part of a welcoming community. It's doesn't matter if you're new or you've been creating games for years. This is a chance to explore new ideas, new points of view, or meet new people! If you're searching for a team, contact me and I'll try to find you one! You can not expend two full weeks creating a game? Do a one week game or one hour one. Big or small, perfect or imperfect, all games are welcome. Don't be shy! Let's create something together and have fun in the process.

(The whole thing about hating horror media is a joke, in case you are a very literal person)

Rules:

  • Don't create horror games. It doesn't matter is they have jumpscares or not, they can't be scary (If you are looking to make scary games I can redirect you to other jams that take place in October). They can be creepy, tho. Ex. Fran Bow is creepy but not scary.
  • The games need to contain elements that traditionally are portrait as scary or Samhain related. This includes Halloween, Dia de Muertos, All Saint's Day, etc. Monsters, ghosts, witches, etc. Monsters or rituals can come from any culture but they have to be scary in that culture. Just because you think something is creepy, it doesn't mean is understanded like that in its culture. Disabilities or deformities are not scary.
  • The games cannot contain hate speech. Misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, aphobia, nbphobia, fatphobia or any form of ableism are not allowed.
  • Be nice to each other! Don't be unnecessarily rude to other participants.

The jam will end on October 31st 6 p.m. (Central Europe Time). One hour after it ends, I'll do a streaming playing all the games made during the jam.

Tips:

  • Don't work on the game more than 8 hours a day. 4 if you have a full-time job.
  • If you don't like how the game is ending up, don't be afraid of starting anew.
  • Plan for a smaller game that what you think you can do. You will never have time left since polishing never ends!
