Make something inspired by SpeedRune, the free, rules-lite, ancient world RPG!

SpeedRune is a flexible game with no hard canon—very easy to hack and expand.

Resources & Inspiration

• check out the SpeedRune & Its Vibes itchio collection
• an "ancient world fantasy" reading list of some of my favorite fiction
• get free public domain art from the Met's Open Access program or the British Library's Flickr account
• resist scope creep and make something small; here's a "worksheet manifesto"
• read the games that influenced SpeedRune: Sledgehammer by gayhalforc, Cybermetal 2012 by Adam Vass, RuneQuest by Greg Stafford

Some Ideas

• make a new rune or suite of runes
• create a downtime action, seasonal adventure, or yearlong campaign
• apply some of the rules (seasonal adventuring, downtime, runes) to a different genre or setting
• write an entry in the encyclopedia (or a rebuttal of something incorrectly detailed there)
• complicate the system (add classes, detailed magic rules, combat maneuvers)
• write a short poem, sketch a map, or draw a funky little dude
