Tired of the same old game controls—WASD to move, spacebar to jump, shift to sprint? Well, it's time to break free from that tired formula! Welcome to the Spacebar Game Jam, where the only button you need (and are allowed to use) is the Spacebar.
That’s right—no complicated control schemes, no juggling multiple buttons. In this jam, every game must be built around a single, simple input: the Spacebar. Whether you're using it to jump, attack, trigger actions, or solve puzzles, the Spacebar becomes your tool for everything. Can you create a fun and engaging experience with just one button?
1. Single Input Only: The only key allowed for interaction in your game is the Spacebar. Any action—whether it's moving, jumping, attacking, or solving puzzles—must be performed using the Spacebar. Thats right: this means no WASD, no Shift, but also no mouse movement or mouse clicking. Still dont get it? 2. Original Work: All games must be original creations. You can use game engines, assets, or frameworks, but the core gameplay mechanics must be unique to this jam. Reusing a game you've already made or modifying a previous project is not allowed. No use of assets not madde during the Jam allowed either.
3. Theme and Genre: There are no strict genre or theme limitations, as long as the game follows the “one key” rule. Get creative with your design, whether it’s a puzzle, platformer, action game, or something else entirely. Please put senstivity warnings if your game contains any sensitive content, including flashing lights.
4.Deadline: All games must be submitted by the official jam deadline. No extensions will be given, so plan accordingly and make sure to finalize your game before the cutoff.
5.Asset Usage: You may use public domain resources or assets from asset stores, as long as you have the proper rights to use them. If you create original art, sound, or music, that’s great, but it’s not required. Just be sure to credit anything you didn’t make yourself!
6.Collaboration: You’re welcome to collaborate with others! If you choose to work with a team, all contributors should be acknowledged in the credits. However, please ensure that all submissions are made by the stated deadline.
7.Judging and Evaluation: Submissions will be judged based on creativity, how well they incorporate the Spacebar as the primary control, esthetics, mechanics and overall.
