We are happy to announce our second of many game jams to come! Generate 3D assets with Sloyd – our tool for easy 3D creation and combine them in your game. Regardless of your experience level, you are more than welcome to join the fun!

The Sloyd game jam has two events. The main event is for new games. Entries for this event need to be created from the start of the event. The secondary event is about improving an existing game. So if you just finished Global Game Jam and you want to continue working on your game you can enter the Sloyd Jan. To read about that secondary event scroll down.

Rules

Code for the game, and asset creation must start only after the game jam starts. You can, however, plan, create moodboards and gather references before that.
At least 5 of the used assets must be created with Sloyd (Please list in the description which assets were made with Sloyd)
All characters can be created with other software, but you get extra points for utilizing one of our asset as the player or non-player character. You also get extra points for using sloyd assets as interactable objects!
Each team can consist of maximum of 5 people. You can enter the competition ranging from a solo developer to full a team.
The game should not contain any NSFW content.
Planning, moodboards and reference gathering beforehand is allowed, but coding, asset creation must be done during the event.

About Sloyd

Sloyd makes 3D creation a lot easier and faster. Our easy to use editor does not require learning a new tool and runs in your browser without any installation needed. Texturing is still in the works, so for now you will need to do that manually.Select from over 200 different generators, and make adjustments to get the result you are looking for. It’s that easy!

Our tool is very convenient to use and will allow you to focus on the game design, rather than spending your time on modeling.

Gameplay – Is it fun, smooth, and/or innovative
Use of our assets – How you utilize our assets
Visuals – the general look and atmosphere of the game (please be aware, that texturing counts into this!)
Theme – Implementation of the theme

Improve Existing Games Event

There are two events in the game jam. The main one is for new games created during the jam and the theme, rules and prizes above are for that main track.

The second event is for people who just finished Global Game Jam and want to continue to work on their game. ‘Existing games’ track do not have to follow the theme and it’s not mandatory for them to use Sloyd assets. They will be judged separately and the winner of this track will receive 1 year free membership to Sloyd. All game of this track will be played by the judges and promoted in the Sloyd community.

I don’t have a team, how can I participate?

Don’t worry, if you don’t have a team, you can find one in our discord server in #find-a-team channel.

Who are the judges?

Founders of Sloyd and the game jam manager will evaluate each game.

How much experience do I need to use Sloyd?

None. Our tool is very intuitive and super easy to use.

Are there any restrictions on the assets generated with Sloyd?

Assets can be used freely in any way you want it, except reselling the assets itself as a product.

Do I have to make a 3D game for the jam?

You can make either 3D or 2D games as long as you stick to the general rules of the jam. We’ve seen great examples of 2D games using sprite versions of Sloyd generated models!
