Sacramento Developer Collective would like to present our next Game Jam! As part of our monthly Game Jam series, here's our #RetroJam for this Feb 2021 to come together and celebrate our differences.

On February 27, National Retro Day takes us back to a time before smartphones and the internet.

Every generation looks back and asks, “Remember when?” This celebration indulges our love for the good ol’ days while remaining in the present.

No matter the decade, pick a point in time where people talked more face to face than text to text, had dinner at home around the table and the kids played games that didn’t require the internet.

What’s your retro? On National Retro Day, swoop the hair into a mile-high beehive or strut those eight-inch bell bottoms. Can you maximize the curls for a stellar Afro? Don’t hesitate to break out the old roller skates and see if you still have those mad skills. Tie the hair up with a polka dot bandana and strike muscle pose like Rosie the Riveter. Maybe you prefer a moonwalk, a leather jacket, and a single glove.

With no smartphones, internet, and social media, we spent more time focused on each other when we were together. Each moment recorded in memory for us to look back retrospectively and not for the whole world to see.

This won’t be a ranked jam, so it’ll be a free-for-all for any and all submissions!

This is a jam where you're welcome to take on your backlogged and/or unfinished games, and finish your game within this 24 hour Game Jam! If you participated in our Global Game Jam 2021 event, then you’re more than welcome to work on that project and expand it however you like, and use that game to publish in this jam!

This game jam will be running for 24 hours (with time for sleep of course, or no sleep at all) with additional resources being shared through our social media and more! So stay tuned!

Our theme will be announced on the day of the jam!  :raised_hands:

____________

If you'd like to create teams, come join us in our Discord and we have some Game Jam channels for you to work in :)

After submissions, we’ll be openly voting and browsing through other people’s games throughout the week until the following weekend until results are in!

Would this be your first? Sometimes diving headfirst is the best way!

A good way to get started is to follow tutorials online. Experimenting with the tutorials you find is a great way to make something your own.
