What is SCI-FI VN JAM ?

SCI-FI VN JAM is an annual 6 month jam where developers and artists are challenged to make short but complete visual novel game in 6 months under science fiction genre. All visual novels submitted for SCI-FI VN JAM should be exclusively made between the 2nd of April to 30th of September 2025.

Rules:

  • Takes place from April to September
  • You can only begin actual production of game in the month of April.
  • Allowed before SCI-FI VN JAM begins:
    • Brainstorming.
    • Team Building
    • Plot Writing
    • Concept Art of sprite characters.
    • Lyrics of Songs.
    • Melody of Music.
    • Sketch and line art of backgrounds and CGs.
    • Writing Game Design Document.
    • GUI design sketch of the game.
  • Not allowed before SCI-FI VN JAM begins:
    • Sketch , colouring, rendering of sprite characters with or without expressions.
    • Colouring and rendering of backgrounds and CGs.
    • Draft writing of the story, or final story of the game.
    • Mixing and mastering of music and songs.
    • Coding of the Game.
    • Production of assets to be used in game.
  • Use of Creative Commons Asset is allowed.
  • Use of any premade asset either free or paid must be publicly available.
  • Having game bugs are okay but it shouldn't crash the game.
  • Mini-games are allowed however the game should primarily be a Visual Novel.
  • Kinetic Novels are allowed.
  • Use of any game engines are allowed or can be done without a game engine as well.
  • No NSFW.
  • Should have a browser build in itch so that it could be played via Itch store page directly.
