This jam is now over. It ran from 2025-05-07 14:00:00 to 2025-05-21 22:59:59. View results

The jam will run from 3pm BST (10am EDT - 7 am PDT) on May 7th, until midnight BST (7pm EDT, 4pm PDT) on May 21st.

I don't know why I'm telling you this, the information is at the top of the page.

Following the close of submission, there will be  a three (3) day voting period until midnight BST (7pm EDT, 4pm PDT) on May 24th.

The theme for this jam is:

TIME LOOP

This is open to interpretation. I'm not sure how you'd implement a time loop in a non-obvious way, but I'm interested to see what people come up with.

Why am I announcing the theme before the jam starts? Because I don't know what I'll be doing when the jam starts. I have kids, pets, responsibilities. There's no guarantee I will be available when the jam starts to announce the theme. So you get it now.

Also, if you have the theme before the jam starts, you can plan ahead! :)

The limitation is:

TWO COLOURS

Yes, I spelled it with a "u". I'm British. Again, the limitation is being announced before the jam so that you can plan accordingly. The limitation is entirely open to interpretation. You don't have to make a game with only two colours. I mean, monochromatic games are fun and all, but don't feel to make one.

Examples:

A character with two-coloured hair, like Cruella De Vil
Red vs Blue
Night and day, with the two colours being the lighting

Games will be ranked on the following:

AUDIO-VISUAL

Does the game look good?
Does the sound match the feel of the game?
Is the design coherent and consistent?

CREATIVITY

Is the game new and interesting?
Is it fun to play?
Does it feel different form other games?

ADHERENCE TO THEME

How well does the game implement the theme?
Does the game implement the theme?

ADHERENCE TO LIMITATION

Same as above, but with the limitation.

AI STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.

Let's face it, AI "art" looks like shit and AI generated music is incredibly samey. So, don't use them. I can't possibly tell you not to use AI generated code, because how could I know if you did or not (unless you provide the source code, which is not a requirement)

SOLO DEVS AND SMALL TEAMS ONLY

What counts as a small team? Up to and including five (5) members.

NO NSFW

Please, for everybody's sanity, keep it PG-13. Or, I guess, since it's a game jam, keep it T (Teen).

NO HATE

I want SCG Jams to be a safe space. Thematically, you can do what you want, but games made specifically as an attack against any group will not be tolerated. Basically, don't be a dick.

THEME AND LIMITATION ARE BOTH REQUIRED

You need to adhere to both the theme and the limitation, but how you do so is up to you. You will be asked when you submit your game how you interpreted them. Voters are to consider the dev's explanation when rating on adherence to the theme and limitation.

PREMADE ASSETS ARE ACCEPTABLE

You want to use something by Kenney or Quaternius? Go nuts! You want to use an asset pack you found on the Unity Asset store, or Fab.com? That's a-okay. As long as you are legally entitled to use them (i.e. not stolen), they're fine. There's just one exception: NO AI! That includes 3D models. And I'm only saying this because most game asset stores allow AI generated assets for some reason. Please check before using them!

PERFECTION IS NOT REQUIRED

Two weeks is not nearly enough to make a fully polished game, so I don't expect you to make one. If all you can make is a prototype, do that. If the prologue/first chapter of an episodic game is more your speed, that's great. As long as there's a clear beginning, middle and end, it's acceptable.

I do ask that you mention somewhere in your game's description (ideally near the top) if it's not a complete game.

NO PAID GAMES

If it's not free, it's not accepted. Your game must be free for at least the duration of the jam and voting period. It's two and half weeks. It's not going to kill you. After the voting period ends, you can do what you like, but keep it free until May 25th.

STICK TO THE JAM PERIOD

While you are perfectly free to start planning your game at any time before the jam starts, it must be developed during the jam.

If you want to start working on assets before hand, that's fine, but only art and audio, Code must be written during the jam period.

GDDs ACCEPTED BUT NOT REQUIRED

To clarify, you are not required to submit a Game Design Document, but it would be nice to see. If you want to include one, upload it as a separate free file on your project page with GDD somewhere in the file name. Again, this is not required, I'm just interested.

None this time, unfortunately. No spare money right now. Like I said, kids, cats, responsibilities. If anyone wants to donate a prize for this or future jams, let me know. You can contact me on BlueSky or Discord.
