Hey devs! Welcome to Same Same Game Jam 2025, a brand-new experiment in creativity through constraint. This isn’t your average jam, it’s a remix revolution where everyone starts from the exact same art pack and what you do from there is entirely up to you.
That’s right: one shared asset, infinite directions.
Can you take the same ingredients as everyone else and cook up something wildly different? That’s the challenge. Whether you're a minimalist mechanic designer or a maximalist narrative weaver, it’s all about standing out within the sameness.

Jam Duration: 20.07.2025 05:30 → 27.07.2025 05:30
Voting Period: 27.07.2025 05:30 → 31.07.2025 05:30
*All time mentioned is in 24-hour format GMT+05:30*
Shared Asset Required
A single 2D pixel asset pack will be revealed at the start of the jam. You must use this in your game in a meaningful way. You can build around it, remix it, even subvert it but it must be recognizable and central.
Theme Optional, Constraint Absolute
No theme this time. The shared asset is the theme. Your interpretation, tone and genre are entirely up to you.
Team or Solo
Jam solo or with a team (max 5 people). Find collaborators on the Discord!
Original Code & Design Only
You must create your game during the jam period. You can use third-party tools, engines and open-source code (with attribution), but no pre-made games or AI-generated content.
Asset Flexibility
You can modify, recolor, or recontextualize the shared assets, but you can’t ignore them. That’s the point.
Submission Format
HTML5/WebGL strongly encouraged for easier judging. Windows/Linux builds also accepted.
Once the jam ends, participants will rate each other’s games based on:
Creativity — How unique is the interpretation of the shared asset?
Fun / Game Design — Is the gameplay engaging and well thought out?
Art Direction — How well are the visuals used or transformed?
Audio — How does the sound support the experience?
Cohesion — Does it feel like a polished, unified game?
The Same Same Game Jam celebrates the idea that constraints breed creativity. By starting from the same seed, you’ll get to witness just how different outcomes can be based on design choices alone.
Need a mental jolt? Try these:
Genre switch-ups: Turn a platformer tileset into a tactics game. Use cute characters for a horror experience. Use RPG art for a rhythm-based brawler.
Perspective shift: Use the art in an entirely different camera style: 3D with 2D billboarding? First-person dungeon crawler? Side-scrolling bullet hell?
Mechanical inversion: Create a game that destroys the asset over time. Make the player repair the asset. Or repurpose parts of the sprites into UI.
Non-game experiments: Turn the asset into an interactive art piece, visual novel or storytelling toy. Build a tool, an in-game level editor or a simulation.
Narrative misfit: Build a game with a tone that’s totally out of sync with the visuals. Serious story, goofy art. Or vice versa.
Unusual input/output: Use voice, rhythm, AI-generated audio or alternate controls (like mouse gestures or typing) with the shared visuals.
Minimalist remix: Use only a single sprite from the set; build a one-mechanic microgame or WarioWare-style challenge.
World remix: Re-skin the asset mid-game. Reinterpret it as an ancient relic in a sci-fi universe. Make it meta: “this sprite is aware it’s in a jam entry”
The power of this jam lies in watching the same building blocks used to construct totally different experiences.

Because sameness is boring… unless you know how to break it.
The Same Same Game Jam is a challenge in creative subversion; an invitation to work within hard limits and still stand out. When everyone has the same starting material, originality has nowhere to hide. It’s not about who has the best assets or the flashiest style, it’s about what you do with exactly what everyone else has.
This isn’t a theme-based jam. It’s not about genre, mood, or message. It’s about constraint. One asset pack. No early starts. No head starts. Just pure design divergence.
You’ll all be using the same visual base but how you interpret it, transform it, reframe it or even parody it is entirely your call. The jam is a canvas for creative problem-solving, experimentation, satire and polish. Want to build a shooter, a dating sim, a rhythm game or a deeply emotional narrative, all from the same sprite sheet? That’s the spirit.
Sameness isn’t the limit. It’s the launchpad.
See just how far one idea can go.
Let’s jam.
