👾 Welcome to Retro Jam!
Retro Jam is a week long game jam where you take a game and redesign it for a retro console, an example would be redesigning Portal as a SNES game.
👾 Game requirements:
- Your game must redesign some existing game idea.
- Your game must (loosely) follow the restrictions of the platform you’ve chosen.
- There will be an (optional) theme announced at the start of the jam. If you’re not using the theme please mention it on your game page.
When it comes to finished builds there are no requirements at all! On the other hand we recommend you build your game for the web since it results in your game getting played by more people.
👾 Guidelines:
- If your game contains disturbing or otherwise NSFW content you must add appropriate warnings.
- You’re allowed to work alone or in teams.
👾 QnA:
Does my game need to run on the actual platform I’ve chosen?
No, the only requirement is that it follows the restrictions of the platform.
Can I use premade assets, scripts or ideas?
Yes! When it comes to assets you can use them as long as they follow these guidelines.
1. The asset is general purpose. (Things like character controllers )
2. You have the rights to use them.
3. Write which assets were made before the jam in your description.
4. Credit any assets you don't own in the description.
As for ideas, you are free to plan out your game before the jam starts.
What is considered a retro console?
A retro console would be any older console, usually an 8/16 bit console. We’ve written a list of some retro consoles to choose from, however if a console you have in mind is not listed feel free to ask any of the hosts if it’s allowed.

Do I have to redesign a game newer than the console I’ve chosen?
No, as an example you can take an Atari 2600 game and redesign it for the SNES
