This is a carefree Jam, as you will understand from the tone, but there is prize money on the line. I hope to encourage creativity and idea exploration. The pulsating core of all games
As game developers, we all know that Radial Menus are the pulsating core of all games. Sharpening UI/UX skills is also a good practice! So, consider participating!
Maybe the real friends were the radial menus we made along the way - JakeBlade
Not everyone knows that Radial Menus are extremely good and versatile tools! Did you know that you can open a can of beans with an iRadial Menu? They are also used extensively to practice productive procrastination!
Are you about to craft a present for your dearest? "I can't believe you did this..." It's often what follows the astonishment of the recipient! Give it to your best friend for their birthday? "WTF dude!" It's going to be their incredulous response!
I personally spend hours talking about radial menus with my partner: the look in their eyes is priceless.
We often face tall walls of difficult tasks during our journeys to progress with our projects. This can get demoralizing. Taking some time to flesh out other parts of our projects can be a relief, if done with moderation.
With Radial Menus sky is the limit! And they work at their full potential if attached to a game!
THE THEME IS: "LIGHT & DARKNESS"
The theme is both open to interpretation and optional. You can ignore the theme or be extra creative in how you interpret it, but remember that your game will be judged on how well it incorporates the theme.
You can prepare your radial menu skills (and code) in advance. Or implement it during the jam! It's up to you.
Only for Foolbox in case he wants to participate: You are allowed to work on a game before the start date, but you can only work on radial menus during the time constraints of this jam.
As mentioned, you are allowed to use pre-made assets, including the ones from any asset library.
I worked on releasing a plugin for Godot that implements Radial menus in 2D and 3D. I'd love to do the same for Unity, but I'm much more familiar with Godot! Feel free to use it as is, take inspiration from it, grab part of the code or modify it! Here is the link to the repo. It won't be published in the Asset Library on time probably, because of the revision time.
For any questions not contained in the FAQ or for team building, you can join the Discord server. Or you can join a live stream of the organizer on Twitch and ask your questions there.
Be warned, you may want to disable the @everyone notifications, since anyone in the server can use it. And we do encourage abusing it.
This Jam is open for individuals and teams! There is a Community Topic for team building here and a thread on the Discord server here. So if you are looking to make new friends, write there! Copy/Pasting between Discord and the Community topic is encouraged.
When submitting your entry, you'll find a field to mention the team members who participated.
After the jam ends, submissions will be open for public voting. The voting ends on the 19th of April at 20.30 CET
Games will be rated on:
We are using the queue system provided by itch.io for the rating. Submitters can rate any game at any time, but all the other voters will be asked to rate at least 2 random entries before rating any entry of their choice. This can help ensure all entries get a fair number of minimum ratings.
The community-voted 1st place in the Overall category will get €100
Winners will be chosen based on creativity, implementation of the theme, and overall game feel. The overall winner is decided by iRad based on the outcome of the voting. There are a few different categories to vote on, and the winners will be the entries with the highest overall scores. In the event that the community winner is tied, the prize will be split.
The winner or winners can choose to have the prize money sent to a charity of their choice if they wish.
I was developing my game on a Twitch stream, I wasn't addressing the issue of NOT having a complete core game-loop and decided to import a radial menu instead. So chat made me notice that! And it became a meme.
Be my guest.
Do you realize which jam you decide to check out? The answer is no. Go wild with the "radial menu" concept. It doesn't have to be the classical one necessarily, any interpretation would probably do fine.
Not incorporating the theme will reduce your chances of winning as that is one of the categories your game will be judged on. However, the theme is not a requirement for entry. If you think your game is so amazing that it can win without any points in the theme category, or you just don't care about winning, feel free to ignore the theme.
Be my guest, use the hastag #radialmenujam . I would suggest to use bsky if you have an account there, but you'll be banned if you post on Twitter.
I probably can't, but if you don't really know where to go, I'll see if I can arrange something.
