(((First of all, I would like to add that this game jam is not affiliated with any communist or queer movement. It is organized by me, only by me, one person! (MizuMiaw), I live in Cuba but I repeat, I do not belong to any organization associated with communism and NO! CUBA'S GOVERNMENT DOESNT SUPPORT THIS. The way the game jam is written is obviously a parody of the "propaganda form" of Russia and Cuba and the other communist parties. Before you start to see it in a political way or misunderstand it, just see it as a way to do something funny. And maybe it comes out very formal because I don't know English very well, so I use a translator that also makes it look more formal than what I wanted to do. You don't have to read the bibliography at the end nor do you have to know history, it's all part of the "style" of the game jam. Don't take things so seriously, it's just fun.)))

The relationship between communism and homosexuality has been very heterogeneous over time in each of the different socialist states and by communist parties, varying from complete acceptance to even condemnation.

While Karl Marx barely addressed the issue of sexuality, some socialist states considered homosexuality to be the result of the decadence of bourgeois capitalist society. However, many other communist positions closer to progressivism, especially in the 21st century, consider sexual liberation and LGBTQ+ as key issues within communism. In Spain, the PCE, integrated in Izquierda Unida, was the first national political party to carry in its electoral program the recognition of unions between same-sex couples in 1989, as well as adoption in 1996 and equal marriage in 2000.

Currently, Cuba is the only country of Marxist-Leninist or Maoist ideology that has equated same-sex marriage with heterosexual marriage after approving the new code of families by referendum in 2022 as well as equality in adoption.

Dear comrades, we give you a sincere salutation and welcome to the first edition of the Queer Communist Game Jam, organized from CUBA to the WORLD. We invite all independent video game developers to collaborate with the intention of elaborating an almost non-existent record/archive of this kind; communist queer-themed games. We want to give visibility to those minorities and people hidden in their caves that could feel identified with a space like this. We will embrace and support you in every way our society allows us to. The Game Jam will be available from June 28th (International LGBT Pride Day) until November 7th (Great October Socialist Revolution).

Anyone, from anywhere. You can work alone or with a team. Make sure you have an itch.io account and press the big button on this page to join the jam. Don't worry, you are not forced to submit anything after you press the button so go ahead and press it even if you are not sure about being able to join. All participants must be in our discord server. At this point, all you can do is wait and get excited about the jam.

Be kind to everybody participating in the jam and never forget we’re all in the same boat. Don’t insult other people's projects because you consider them wrong, naive, out of your vision, or whatever. Thought not mandatory, remember that you can also be kind to yourself by avoiding crunch, using free and open source software and forgetting about generative AI trained on stolen data.

Make sure you read the rules, so you know what's allowed and what isn't... This way you can ask about stuff that's unclear before the jam starts.

There are two clear themes: Queer and Communism. The way to develop it will depend on your creativity. It is open to any game engine, software, tools, styles, genres, if it is linked to the main slogans, but web game is recommended as it is playable by everyone. We emphasize the importance of exploring activism, resistance, love, and empowerment

If it will be set in a specific place, it’ll be in some of the countries linked to communism in the course of history (URSS, Cuba, China, Vietnam, Laos, North Korea), although it can be in any other or in a non-place. IMPORTANT: Get inspiration from @homocommunist on Instagram.

Likewise, we will leave a brainstorming topic with ideas that you are free to take or not, they are OURS. Because maybe, at the beginning, it will be complex, but very innovative and interesting stories could be born.

“Maybe a Homosexual Could Be the Most Revolutionary.”

Huey P. Newton on Women's and Gay Liberation,

Minister of Defense and co-founder of the Black Panther Party.

The comrade who runs the Homocommunist profile and website has a very relevant archive on the subject we are discussing. He inspired us to create this Game Jam and we invite you to be inspired by him as well.

The following categories are not mandatory, but we think it will be quite fun to further implement the challenge. We have two: Sharing and Love. You can either not use them in your entries, or you can use only one, or you can use both together. How creative can you get in developing a queer communist game about sharing love. We are excited comrades!

Fxck CapitalismFXCK CAPITALISM is a Game Jam started in 2023 with the fundamental purpose of making capitalism "cry". They expose that capitalism (in all its forms) brings us global warming and environmental destruction, imperialism and wars, inequality and poverty, shitty jobs, precariat, and beyond. It is a month-long Game Jam where you can submit anything since a video game, digital storytelling experience, interactive meme, board game, comic book, children's picture book, poems, anthems, posters or stickers... as long as it includes a high dose of biting criticism, satire, documented atrocities, pure rage, incredible alternatives and/or everyday tricks to fight rampant capitalism in a creative way.
