Quake 2 Remaster Q2+2 Jam Announcement
On the 18th of October Quake 4 will turn 20 years old. To celebrate that anniversary we’re hosting a very special jam. Powered by Konig’s Ionized and with a complete visual overhaul thanks to Coffee’s Q2+2 mod, we’re bringing Quake 4 to the Quake 2 Remaster. You can build an original map with the assets we’ll provide in the jam channel or choose to do a reimagining of an existing Quake 4 map.
The guidelines are as follows:
• Aesthetics: Primarily use the textures we provide, only use base textures when there is no alternative, like buttons. The goal is to recreate the look of Quake 4 in Quake 2, so try to stick to that. Use of water is encouraged due to Quake 4's severe lack of it.
• Audio: Custom music and SFX are allowed.
• Design: Match the style and tone of Quake 4. We’ll provide a list of maps and saves so you can quickly play them for inspiration. If you want to do a reimagining, you need to claim the map first. State the map in the channel and ping me (Sprony). Each map must start with a drop pod nearby (think opening Quake 2 after the intro) or a sequence like in Call of the Machine and end with players activating a beacon for which you can use the air strike marker (to imitate a pick up request).
• Specifics: target_changelevel must target q2q4jam1_start with spawnflag 56 and targetname changelevel. Name your map q2q4jam1_<yourname> (e.g., q2q4jam1_shartuterie). Set an in-game name using the message key in worldspawn. Navigation files are strongly encouraged.
Starts August 15th and ends September 14th, followed by a public playtesting period. Participants must give themselves the jamming role per the instructions outlined within the rules. Submit your map in the Map-Center Discord (https://discord.gg/vSvqwys5hB) by making a post in the playtesting-forum and pinging me (Sprony) along with the playtesters role. Must include your .map, .bsp and a .txt readme.
