#procjam is a jam about making generative software - computer programs that make things when you run them, like art, music, games, stories, wallpapers, recipes, poetry or anything else you can think of. It's an exciting, different way to be creative, and PROCJAM is here to help you get started, find friends, and have fun with it!

#procjam just has one rule: Make Something That Makes Something. You can enter a Twitterbot, a videogame, a dice table, an artwork, anything you can think of - it just needs to have something generative in it. What on earth does that mean? Where would you even start? Scroll down to find some helpful resources, or look at PROCJAM 2017, 2016, 2015, or 2014 (we're five years old this year!)

Whatever you make, let us know what you're up to! Tweet with the hashtag #procjam and don't forget to submit your work to the jam using this page when you're done.

Yes, probably! PROCJAM is different to most game jams. We emphasise having a fun, healthy jam experience. So:

  • You can start before the start date, and finish after the end datecontact us on Twitter for a 'late' submission. Don't overwork, and take breaks!
  • You can use existing code/art/writing/anything or even continue an existing project. Feel free to add something generative to a game you're making and submit that!
  • We welcome all kinds of submissions. No entry is too small or too big for this jam. Whether this is your first generator of your hundredth, we welcome what you've made, and we all want to see it.
  • PROCJAM has no winners and no losers. We try to highlight and celebrate all our entries, and everyone who enters will get featured in Jupiter Hadley's YouTube compilation of the jam!

Thanks to the generosity of all our Kickstarter backers for this year, we were able to hire game development superstar Lotte to design a starter project, made in Game Maker, to help people start out with procedural generation! We'll have this available sometime later this year - stay tuned!

Every year we get a group of amazing people to give talks about generative software to help inspire everyone as they enter the jam! This year we have an all-star lineup of people, and we'll be making their talks live as the jam begins, with a live viewing party online! Our 2018 speakers are:

We're making a new issue of Seeds this year! If you'd like to write a short article or send in an image spread, you still have time - we'll be closing submissions on September 14th.
