Theme

Ah, spring. A lovely time. You've just made it through the brutal winter . The breeze is gently blowing, and the sun has decided to cast some warm rays. Spring is the season of birth and life, but it's also a break between the sharp cold of winter ๐Ÿฅถand the harsh heat of summer ๐Ÿฅต. Spring is also a moment of peace. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

The theme for this game jam is Respite and Safe Havens

Design a game where a key game mechanic focuses on a moment of safety or peace. Think about moments like:

  • Holding a fresh cup of coffee in the morning after the kids have gone to school
  • Meditating after finishing yoga
  • Lying in the sun at a peaceful park having a picnic
  • Sitting at a bonfire after slaughtering a blood-thirsty demon
  • A safe room after getting chased by a ghost in a haunted house

Your game can be entirely about that moment, like making sandwiches in the park. Or it can have just have moments of peace for the player to take a break.

Bonus theme: Incorporate an aspect of spring ๐ŸŒธ of your choosing (be sure to explain in your submission!)

Rules

Let's get the boring part out of the way... ๐Ÿ˜ดAlthough the jam is intended to be flexible, certain rules must be followed in order to create a fair and inclusive environment. Submissions found violating these rules will be disqualified or removed from the jam depending on their severity. Breaking rules 4-7 will result in automatic removal from the jam.

  2. Participants must treat other participants with respect.
  3. Games may use pre-made assets, but must credit them. Assets can be credited directly on their Itch page or in-game.
  4. Games may only use assets for which they have the rights to use.
  5. Games should not use adult-only, or inappropriate content.
  6. Games may not be submitted to other game jams.
  7. Games must be developed within the submission period of the jam.

  6. Teams should spend approximately two weeks working on their game
  7. If you have questions, reach out to @www500 on Discord

Ranking

Now for the fun part! Games will be ranked by you based on the following:

  • โœ…Overall (voted): vote on how good participants thought a game was in general
  • ๐Ÿ“œFit the Brief: How much the game aligned with the theme
  • ๐Ÿ™€Wow Factor: How much game surprised you either in scope, art, gameplay, or uniqueness
  • ๐ŸŽฏWant the Full Version: How much you'd want the team to go on to make a whole game from this concept
  • ๐Ÿ‘พFun: How much fun you had playing the game

The jam will have two winners. The highest Overall rank will be the first (i.e. via popular vote). The other will be selected by the host/judge. Each winner will be a co-champion of the game jam. What do you get for winning? A bit of recognition and pride ๐Ÿ˜‰!
