hello there! do you like to make poetry? we do, but we find it hard to find community around our practice, which is why we made this jam. hopefully it will encourage people to engage more with an art-form that is often misunderstood, avoided, or written off as being "too pretentious or technical for the average person". 

we want nothing more than to assure people that poetry is accessible, easy, and fun. because it is! it can also be healing, heartbreaking, and powerful - and everything in between.

maybe you have never made poetry before, but here's a chance to try! anybody can make poetry, and there are few limits to what poetry can be. the wealth of different forms and approaches to poetry is immense, but don't let that overwhelm you if you're a beginner. the point is that the world is yours, and that you can be a poet even if you've never thought of yourself as one. 

the idea is that you have two weeks to make some kind of poetry-based thing. it can be a game, a comic, or just some poetry in a pdf - anything goes, as long as what you create is poetry! 

the jam is unranked, because we would like for it to be as open and accessible to beginners as possible. it's also really hard to judge poetry, because it can be so varied. we don't want our personal preferences in poetry to discourage anyone from making what they like!

a: while you're very welcome to make something about poetry, you should include poetry in your submission. 

q: should i do anything after submitting my work?
a: interact with the other submissions and give them 5 star ratings! leave comments and follow people! this jam is about making more of a community for poetry on itch, after all! 

q: how do i post about this on social media? 
a: use the hashtag #poetryjam to spread the word!

q: can i make my project cost money?
a: ideally not during the month of december 2026... after december is over do whatever you like though!
