Join the #2024-plse-game-jam channel for announcements! The theme was:

Everything Must Go!

The Research game jam Catechism

1. Problem

What is the problem? What opportunities does addressing it create?

PLSE has never had a video game night together :((((

ᴬᴸˢᴼ ᴵᴹ ᴴᵁᴺᴳᴿʸ ᵃⁿᵈ ᴸᴬᶻʸ

⇒ If i am fed and play games then all my problems will be solved

2. Insight

What is the key insight? What conceptual contributions does our solution provide?

💡what if we had an excuse to have free food an event that provides free food!!! 💡

3. Claims

How do we know the key insight is good? What measurable claims can we make about the solution?

we all know that grad students will eat any trash that shows up on #food

∴  free food taste better ∴ free food is a moral good

4. Evidence

What evidence do we have to back up the claims?

WE HAVE FOOD BUDGET

What if I've never made a game before?

We'll be having a game design workshop with an intro to bitsy, a lightweight game maker for smaller, vibey games. We'll also be showing off puzzlescript for quick sokobon-like puzzle design, and twine for hypertext narrative writing. We'll also provide game reference and other resources for e.g. quick chiptune making or pixel art.

This jam is really short! We recommend one of the former engines for beginners

If you already know Unreal/Godot/racket hackery go wild ✈️✈️✈️

Can I do physical games or non-electronic game submissions?

ofc ✨be free✨

You can change the classification of your project in the Edit Game settings — just make sure to give instructions on where to find your game on the project page (e.g. "print and play", "find meeee")

Submit your poetry, piano pieces, mime 👁️👄👁️

Is this a closed event?

This is a private friends-and-family event for PLSE lab; itch.io only allows jam pages like this to be unlisted so please don't share this secret link around publicly. Feel free to invite friends into the jam though!

Can I keep my game private to this jam?

Yes, we want everybody to be comfortable sharing their work! You can set the visibility settings in the Edit game tab to Restricted, and add a password onto it (which you can provide on the jam submission form or elsewise). Alternatively, after the jam is done, you can set the game to "Draft" to make it fully private or just delete the webpage. ✨𝓯𝓮𝓮𝓭 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓿𝓸𝓲𝓭 ✨
