Welcome to Jam #2 in the long-running Jam series by me -- Plasmalot!
I've been a hobbyist Dev in the Game Industry for 6+ years, and Jams were how I got my feet wet. I want to help facilitate other peoples' journeys as much as I can!
With that in mind, welcome to Jam #2: 1-Button Jam.
The core rule is that your game must be fully playable end to end using only a single button.
The button can be keyboard, controller, or any other scheme you can think of. As long as the game accepts exactly one unique button, it'll be a success!
Theme: ???
The secondary theme will be announced at the start of the Jam! Tune back in to see the second theme.
Voting
Your game will be voted on the following criteria:
Restriction Adherence - How well your game adheres to the 1 Button restriction.
Visuals - How visually distinct or interesting it is to look at.
Audio - How exciting or pleasing your game is to listen to.
Gameplay - How FUN your game is to play!
Creativity - How well you were able to interpret and incorporate the Secondary Theme.
Absolutely no AI-generated Audio or Visuals, including SFX, Music, 2D art, or 3D. Coding assistance is allowed, but discouraged. You can't be expected to truly learn the skills you need if you aren't the one writing the code!
"Can I work in Teams?"
Yes, of course! The more the merrier. Collaboration is a great driver of success and highly encouraged. Partner with people who have unique skillsets to you and you'll end up with a much better final product!
"Can I submit my game late?"
No, once the Submission window is closed we will allow no late entries. One of the primary learning exercises of Game Jams is to tie a bow on your game and fully deliver it before the Dev window closes. Finishing games is a skill that takes practice to master!
"Are there any prizes or rewards for performing well?"
No, unfortunately not. If you participate in this Jam, it'll strictly be for the love of the game baby (or the love of cheese, it matters not to me.)
"What Engine or assets am I allowed to use?"
You can develop in whatever Engine/language you'd like! Jams are all about having fun.
Pre-existing Assets are also fine, just make sure to give the proper credit (if necessary).
"...why 1 Button?"
I firmly believe that restriction breeds innovation. Being limited to just a single button will hopefully cultivate some very interesting and unique games!
"Do you have a server I can join?"
As a matter of fact, I do! You can join the PlasJam Discord server here. The server is small right now, but the more people join the more fun the community will be. Hop on in!
