WELCOME TO FIRST PIXEL GHOST JAM

WHAT IS THIS JAM

Pixel Ghost Jam is a game-making challenge by Phantom Pixel Syndicate where anyone can create and showcase their games! Each jam has a unique theme, and you can join solo or with a team.

Jams come in different lengths:

  • 1.x (1 week) – Fast-paced challenge

  • 2.x (2 weeks) – More time to refine

  • 4.x (1 month) – Bigger projects

After the jam, games are rated by the community. It's all about creativity, learning, and having fun!

Feel free to join our community at Discord and find your team or ask questions there.

A lot of the rules are described in our Discord community. Let us describe some of them here:

  • Your game must be created during the jam period - no pre-existing projects.
  • You may use pre-made assets (art, sound, music), but you must have permission or credit them properly.
  • AI assistance is not acceptable. And if exposed - game will be disqualified.
  • Royalty-free assets are allowed, but credit must be given when required.

FAQ

Q: Can I work solo, or are teams allowed?
A: You can work solo or in a team. Team participation is encouraged, but don’t "overpopulate" your project—experience shows that a team of up to 6 people is ideal.

Q: Which game engine can I use?
A: Any engine. Literally. Just keep in mind that community support will depend on the knowledge of other participants, so using a custom or niche engine might mean less help.

Q: Is AI completely prohibited?
A: Yes, fully AI-generated content is not allowed. Using AI to create all your sprites, code, or other major assets is too much. Instead, try working with artists or developers. AI can assist (e.g., suggesting code improvements), but make sure to use your own brain in game development.

All games are evenly ranked in six categories:

  • Theme

  • Entertainment

  • Audio

  • Visuals

  • Idea

  • Stability

Here, everyone is a winner! The rating system isn’t about competition - it’s about celebrating creativity, learning, and seeing how well you brought your idea to life. Use the feedback to grow and improve for your next game!
