Welcome to the Pixel Forge a 1-week game jam where developers, artists, designers, and creators come together to build something awesome. You have 7 days to create a game from scratch, experiment with ideas, and turn creativity into playable projects.

Pixel Forge Jam is fiscally sponsored by The Hack Foundation (d.b.a. Hack Club), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

We recommend checking out our website over here for more information and timeline of the game jam

The theme will be revealed when the jam begins. Participants must design their game around the theme once it is announced.

  • You’re free to use any game engine you like, and you can participate solo or in a team of up to 4 people.
  • All work should be created during the jam period. If you do use any pre-made assets make sure to properly credit them when submitting. Also, NO usage of AI-generated content.
  • When you submit your game, include a short explanation of how you used the theme.
  • NO hateful, offensive, or NSFW. If your game includes horror or violence, make sure to clearly mention it on your page.
  • While not mandatory, submitting a browser-playable version is highly recommended since those usually get more plays and ratings. If you can’t do that, a Windows or Mac build works fine.
  • Please don’t try to manipulate ratings in any way.
  • Be respectful during the voting period and try to give useful, constructive feedback to other participants.

The queue is enabled, meaning you'll be given five randomly chosen games to rate first before you can play any game. This is so that all games get a minimum number of ratings.

  • Gameplay - How engaging or enjoyable the game is
  • Theme Usage/ Implementation - How well the theme is implemented in the game
  • Horror - How spooky or scary the game is
  • Music - How well are sound effects implemented
  • Atmosphere - How well is the mood or tone created through combinations of art, sound, and environmental storytelling

Winners must join the Discord  or email pixelforgejam@gmail.com to claim prizes. Teams are responsible for splitting prizes, and distribution is typically one key per member (subject to availability). Solo winners receive one key.

What is the theme?

The theme will be announced when the jam begins

Does my game have to be in a specific format?

No. Browser-based games are strongly recommended because they are easier for more people to play, but a Windows version is also acceptable.

What assets can I use?

You can use any art, audio, code, or tools that you have the legal right to use. The vast majority of new work should still be created during the jam.

Can I submit a game that I already started?

No. Entries are expected to be made during the jam period.

Is there a Discord I can join?

Yes. Join the Pixel Forge Discord here.

Can I use generative AI content in my submission?

No. All generative AI technologies are banned from use in this jam.

Can I submit a game I haven’t finished to the jam?

No stress! Unfinished or buggy games are absolutely accepted. No submission is perfect!

I found bugs or issues after the jam ended. Can I change the submission?

New uploads for the submission will be open for two days after the end of the jam to make bug fixes. Uploads are closed after this time to ensure that submitters finish development at the end of the jam.
