Hello my meeples and peeples, I'm here to announce the first ever Out of Play board game jam, and let me tell you, it's going to be spooktacular! 🎃

That's right, folks, it's time to unleash your inner game designer and get ready for the Spooky Game Jam! The rules are as follows:

Spooky Game Jam Rules

Welcome to the Spooky Game Jam! Please review the following rules carefully before submitting your entry.

Participation Rules

  • Player Count: Your game must support 1–4 players.
  • Originality: Your game must be created specifically for this contest. Previously published or publicly released designs are not eligible.
  • Theme: The game must follow the chosen theme: Spooky / Halloween.
  • Format: You must submit either a playable digital game, the rules and assets, or rules and link to other tabletop gaming tools like tabletop simulator. Alternatively, you may submit all game components as individual images (so they can be export to Tabletop Simulator).
  • Art: Artwork is not judged for polish. The focus is on gameplay, mechanics, and theme clarity. Your game's theme should be recognizable even if the art is simple.
  • Rights: You retain full rights to your game. After the contest ends, you may share, sell, or publish your game as you choose.

Component Specifications

  • Cards: Your game must use exactly 18 cards, supported by any other necessary pieces (dice, tokens, etc.). No cutting, folding, or altering of cards is allowed. Cards may be any shape or size, up to postcard size, and may use any mechanisms (numbering, text, symbols, icons, etc.).
  • Completeness: Submissions must be rules-complete. A player should be able to fully set up and play your game using the provided rules.

The submission deadline is October 30th, and the winners will be announced in November. The grand prize? A sweet $25 in store credit from Out of Play!
