WELCOME BACK GAMERS!

I hope you all had a great summer! GDA is excited to bring you all a fun game jam that will get you excited for the new semester!

What's a game jam some may ask? A game jam is a game development marathon where participants create a project within a given time frame (Ours being roughly 14 days). We welcome all skill levels and backgrounds; Remember, the best way to improve as a game dev is to make games!

So get out there and make a game, fellow game devs!

THEME!

The theme for this jam is: Tropical Beach!

GAME DEV KIT AND ASSISTANCE!

For this game jam, we will be providing assets for you all to use in case you are not really sure where to start, or have no idea how to get started. We are here to help!

In the kit you'll find assets for backgrounds, items, characters, and code for platforming. This code is written in GDScript, which is a programming language for the game engine Godot 4. Feel free to use these assets however you'd like! You are also not required to use them!

If you are having trouble at all with developing your game, please feel free to reach out to the Officers for assistance on Discord! We will also be hosting a workshop on August 25th (the day after our first General Meeting) for anyone who would like some help with their project!

RATING!

At the end of the Jam, there will be a rating period that lasts 7 days (Until September 14, 2023 at 11:59pm). Your game will be rated by the community on aspects such as:

Overall Fun/Enjoyment- How fun your game is to play!

Visual Arts - The visual appeal of your game!

Music & Audio - The audible appeal of your game!

Narrative - The literary appeal of your game!

Thematically Appropriate - How well your game fits the theme!

RULES/FAQ!

Rules:

  • Keep game content clean. No NSFW content, offensive content, over-excessive gore/violence.
  • Any games that do not follow the rules will be removed from the jam without warning.

FAQ:

Can I submit more than one game?  - You are free to submit as many games as you can develop within the time frame.

Can I submit a game I already made?  - No. You may only submit projects made within the time frame.

What engine can I use?  - You can use any engine or framework you like. You can even make your own if you want.

Do I have to follow the theme? - You are not restricted by the theme, however, degree of adherence to the theme will be factored in the submission judging process. Though the theme is pretty flexible.

I have code and assets from other Jams I wish to use, are these allowed? - Yes! If you have the rights to use it, anything that wasn't made specifically for this particular jam is allowed. This jam in particular isn't strict on the "build it from scratch" ruling, but it is encouraged.

What about AI-generated content? - You may use AI to help brainstorm and generate ideas. You may also use AI as a tool for generating code. We do ask, however, that you do not use AI to generate assets or narrative for your game, since these aspects will be considered in the judging process.
