Matthew Wild & Anthony DeVergillo

One Button Game Jam 2023 is a recurring jam inspired by The Playability Initiative.
This years honorary hosts are:
Matthew Wild of Matt's Place Foundation
and
Anthony DeVergillo of Overjoyed

A few words from Anthony DeVergillo...

"Thank you to everyone participating in the One Button Game Jam this year! My name is Anthony DeVergillo and I am a 30 year old accessibility advocate from New Jersey who lives with a rare disease called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This muscle-weakening disorder greatly impacts my dexterity and mobility and I only have limited use of my right thumb for controlling my computer and playing video games. I cannot use a traditional physical controller to play, so the one button games you create with full accessibility are super important to me!

2 videos - the first is me explaining why I am so passionate about video games and the second is an overview of the Overjoyed accessible controller I helped to develop. As you watch them, I invite you to think about why you enjoy video games and brainstorm some accessibility ideas for your own game. And remember this - for your 1st time or your 50th time developing a game, it is so important to always consider accessibility every step throughout your creative process. And in your future career, you will have time and resource constraints to consider when developing a game, but don't let accessibility fall by the wayside. Because when everyone can play your game, we all win!

Happy jamming!"
