The PROMPT: Design a GAME WITHOUT the use of INTERNET.

 

The RULES of COMPETITION:

 

  • Event will run for a duration of ONE WEEK.
    • Participants do NOT need to abstain from Internet for the entire week. HOWEVER:
    • Participants MUST abstain from Internet while the Submission (Game) is IN DEVELOPMENT.
    • This period (the “DEVELOPMENT PERIOD”) includes:
      • PRE-PLANNING, once the THEME is REVEALED.
      • ASSET Construction and Implementation.
      • PROGRAMMING.
      • BUILDING the Application.
    • This period DOES NOT include:
      • RECEIVING the THEME.
      • UPLOADING the Application to the GAME PAGE.
      • SUBMITTING the GAME PAGE to the JAM.
  • All participants must submit ONE and ONLY ONE GAME to the Jam.
    • Submission must be an APPLICATION which can either be
      • DOWNLOADED and played on WINDOWS Personal Computers, or
      • PLAYED DIRECTLY from the GAME PAGE in a standard WEB BROWSER.
    • Submission must be INSPIRED by the THEME, which will be REVEALED at the START OF THE EVENT.
      • THEME may be received at any time during the EVENT.
  • “ABSTAINING from the INTERNET” is defined as:
    • RESTRICTED (FORBIDDEN):
      • ONLINE RESEARCH and INSPIRATION from any online source found during the Event.
      • Watching LIVESTREAMS and conversing with LIVESTREAMERS.
      • Use of SOCIAL MEDIA including but not limited to Discord, Twitch, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, and itch.io.
      • DOWNLOADING ASSETS.
    • PERMITTED:
      • ONLINE:
        • Checking the GAME JAM HOME PAGE for the THEME.
        • Using LIBRARY DATABASES for finding PHYSICAL BOOKS.
        • Using LOCAL NETWORKS for FILE SHARING.
        • UPLOADING and SUBMITTING the GAME.
        • Any use of Internet BEFORE receiving the THEME (for the first time) or AFTER completing the SUBMISSION.
      • OFFLINE:
        • Talking to TEACHERS, FRIENDS, and STRANGERS in-person, granted that you DO NOT SOLICIT THEM FOR ONLINE INFORMATION.
        • Using BOOKS, either at a BOOKSTORE, HOME, or LIBRARY.
        • Using MUSEUMS and PARKS for research.
        • Drawing inspiration from NATURE and OUTDOOR SETTINGS.
        • DREAM JOURNALING and MEDITATION.
      • Under SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES*:
        • Downloading SOFTWARE UPDATES if your CURRENT VERSION IS EXPIRED *AND* UNUSABLE.
        • Uploading BACKUPS to a CLOUD DRIVE, *ONLY IF* YOU HAVE NO HARD DRIVE.

*These are nonetheless discouraged if you can avoid them, since the premise of the Jam is to prepare you for scenarios wherein such options may be unavailable to you.
