Ever find yourself wanting more games with nonbinary content? Ever feel like making that good, sweet content? Well you've come to the right place: it's the Nonbinary Game Jam!
Basic Rules
It's simple, within the month of July, make a game with one or more of the following:
- A nonbinary main character
- Discussion of the nonbinary experience in some way
- Narrative following a nonbinary character's journey
The idea is to create more content with nonbinary representation! If you happen to be nonbinary yourself, that's great, but it's not required.
The jam takes place during the month of July, since that's when International Non-Binary People's Day is, and you can join and submit your game at any point before the end of the month. After the jam ends we encourage you to try out and leave feedback on your fellow contributors' work!
Theme
The optional theme for this year is TOGETHER. It is just there to inspire you, so don't feel pressured to make something that matches it.
More Rules and Guidelines
- Don't be mean. Harassment and rude comments will not be tolerated.
- Make sure you have the right to use the assets in your game, and avoid using assets generated by AI with unethically sourced data. Assets made by you or a friend, stuff you have bought, and assets licensed under something like Creative Commons etc. are all good, as long as you follow any eventual terms (like attribution and such).
- If you have a previous WIP that qualifies to be in the jam (follows the basic rules stated above), then you are free to enter the game into the jam! (Yes, you’re allowed to use this jam as an incentive to finish something.)
- NSFW games are okay, but please make it clear the game is NSFW. The best way to do this is in the game itself, but putting it in the description and/or the game's thumbnail is good too.
- You don't necessarily need to have a nonbinary main character/player character if your game still follows rule 2 or 3 above. For example, the player character can be a relative watching over a nonbinary character, or the player character could be the best friend of a nonbinary character. Just remember that the point of the jam is to create more representation!
- Games that aren't "traditional games" are great to submit! Non-digital games are welcome too! Get your Twines and tabletop games in here! C:
- It's perfectly fine to submit the same game to other jams, as long as you make sure to follow the rules of those jams as well as this one.
- Do your research! Don't know what it's like to be nonbinary? Find articles and videos about the nonbinary experience! Here's a starting point for you. Use the search engine of your choice to find what you need!
- Even if your game is unfinished by the jam's end, we encourage you to submit it anyway!
- Go ahead, update your game after it's submitted. We all find bugs and glitches after we make that "final build". ^^;
- Have fun! :D This is a chill jam, so please remember to enjoy yourself!
