Welcome to the Microsoft Intern Game Jam 2025!

50th Anniversary Edition!

Are you ready to unleash your creativity, challenge yourself, and collaborate with passionate peers? The 2025 Game Jam is your chance! This exciting event brings together aspiring and experienced game developers, designers, artists, and storytellers for an unforgettable marathon of innovation and fun. Whether you’re a coding whiz, a pixel art prodigy, or a narrative mastermind, there’s a spot for you to shine.

Don't feel pressured to make complete entries, as long as they're playable then it is okay to submit!

Location: Building 121, Intern Workspace, Second Floor

Theme: Time Flies!

Diversifiers

To make the jam a little more interesting beyond just the theme, here are some additional constraints that your entry should follow in addition to the jam theme.

These are suggestions, do not feel obligated to use all of them (or any!)

  • Represent Microsoft's core values: We all know the ones. Can your team show a growth mindset, community, or empowerment in your game?
  • 50th Anniversary: As it is Microsoft's 50th Anniversary, what are the ways you can best show the legacy left behind by Microsoft? From Altair BASIC, Windows 95, Xbox 360, Hololens, Zune, for better or worse Microsoft has had a rich history and we should celebrate it as best as we can!
  • Accessibility features: Go the extra mile and add options that take into consideration different types of gamers.

Voting

The voting period for the jam will be as soon as submissions close in the hour proceeding the submission period.

Everyone is allowed to have a say as to the ranking of each category for each entry, and we encourage all participants to play and rank each other's entries as much as possible! We will also play through every game during the closing ceremony.

This jam is ranked and we will have prizes for the winners of each category of which we have:

Theme Relevance How well does this game represent the theme?
Gameplay / Fun How well does this game play? Is it fun?
Creativity / Originality How original is the game concept overall? This could be in assets (if applicable) or thematically.

Rules

  • Your team cannot have more than 3 members. You are allowed to work on the game by yourself.
  • All entries should be expected to run on any Windows PC and have at least keyboard and mouse support.
  • All entries should follow the theme in at least one valid interpretation.
  • All entries should be suitable for general audiences, avoid strong language, excessive violence, and/or explicit content.
  • All entry content should be made during the period of the jam or workshops, exceptions include any generic assets (like fonts, stock sound effects, and/or setup code.)
  • You CAN use AI generated images/audio, please cite that you used it, thanks :)

If you have any questions about whether your entry qualifies, please feel free to ask any of the hosts!

Suggestions

Feel free to use any tools that you want and are familiar with, although as a suggestion due to the time limit and/or varying experience levels please avoid making anything from scratch because it is unlikely you will complete anything if you do so!

As a general suggestion to make it easier for people to play we would prefer entries that can be played through the web, as opposed to desktop games! Plan ahead to save time for building and testing for WebGL.

If you're unsure of how to do this here are official docs on how to do this for your game engines of choice!

Unity - Manual: Build your WebGL application (unity3d.com)

Exporting for the Web — Godot Engine (stable) documentation in English

While we encourage learning, we also value having completed entries!
