It's time for another three month DOS jam!

This is a casual, lighthearted jam, to encourage skill-building, community links, and the creation of more DOS games!

Requirements:

  • Games must run natively on DOS hardware, or in a DOS emulator (e.g. DOSBox).
  • The version of the game submitted must have been completed during the jam.
(Game development may have commenced at any time.)
  • No generative AI, and/or bigoted content (art, music, code, writing etc.)

You will be asked to confirm these when submitting.

I don't know how to program:

The most beginner friendly/popular engines last year were legacy Adventure Game Studio and ZZT.
No matter where you're starting, here are a collection of resources that might help!

I'm not confident making art:

Neither were a lot of classic DOS developers, and it resulted in some very charming games!
Regardless, this year, if helpful, there are a few assets to get you started!
Find them here.

I need more inspiration:

  • Check out last year's submissions!
  • Maybe there's something in the inspiration thread?

This would be easier if I had community:

  • General DOS dev support and community - DOS Shareware Zone
  • I'm making an AGS game - Adventure Game Studio Discord Community
  • I'm making a ZZT game - Worlds of ZZT Discord Community

  • I want to contribute, but don't want to commit to making an entire game by myself:

Keep an eye on, or post in the collaboration thread!

    FAQ:

    • Can I submit a demo/incomplete game? Yes!
    • Can I submit multiple entries? Yes!
    • Do I have to spend the entire three months working on my game(s)? No!
    • Can I submit my game(s) to other game jams? Yes! (As long as it's within the rules of that jam, too!)
    • Can I keep working on my game after the jam is over? Yes!
    • Can I support the jam in other ways?
Encourage the work of jam participants, especially those newer to DOS development, share the jam with people who might be interested, and play other people's games!

    Be kind and have fun!
