The Abertay Games Development Society and Weave by Abertay would like to invite you to attend our ever first Midsummer Jam from 21st – 24th June 2018. The Jam is an opportunity to work with creative people including artists, musicians, programmers and game designers. We provide an exciting theme to get your creative juices flowing but there is no limit to what you can create, whether that’s a painting, a sculpture, a model, a soundtrack or song, a video or a computer game. The choice is yours! The key is collaborating with the diverse people around you and sharing both the joys and the trials and tribulations of the creative process.
Thursday 21st June: 6pm - 9pm
We'll meet on Level 2 of the Abertay Student Centre, set the the theme and then there will be time to network, form teams and discuss ideas.
Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd June: 9am - 9pm
The space on Level 2 will be open 12 hours a day for you to work on your project.
Sunday 24th June: 9am - 3pm
This will be the last period of concentrated work on your project before our finale sharing event.
Sunday 24th June: 3pm - 6pm
Come upstairs to the Hannah Maclure Centre on Level 3 of the Student Centre, where we'll have a show and tell event featuring the work you've made, as well as well-earned snacks and refreshments.
If you can’t join us in person, special (still free) tickets are available for remote attenders, and we’ll aim to live stream all the excitement happening on site. There will be a discord chat available for all jammers. To contribute to the Jam, just follow and use the hashtag #MidsummerJam and you’ll be part of the process of making during the weekend, and we’ll share your outcomes as part of our final show and tell session.
During the Jam we will be providing some basic materials such as paper, cardboard and poster paint. There will be a limited number of Makey Makey kits to allow people to create custom controllers for games or interactive art. All these materials will be available on a first come first serve basis.
You will be required to bring any specific tools you will need such as laptops, expensive paint/brushes, beautiful antique harps etc.
This is an ethical jam meaning we will be encouraging a healthy work/life balance. Eat well, sleep well, drink plenty of water and get out and enjoy the (hopefully) summer weather with a walk up the Law.
