This jam is now over. It ran from 2020-05-27 04:00:00 to 2020-06-06 03:59:59. View results
During the Mechanic Jam, you will be given a term describing a game mechanic. Submissions will be open for 10 days, followed by a two-day voting period.
During these 10 days, you will be tasked with creating a game centered around the described mechanic. Your goal is to implement the mechanic as creatively as possible.
People, mail, lumber, prisoners, weapons of mass destruction. These are all things that need to get from one place to the other. And while transportation is the simple act of moving these things from one place to the other, logistics is a complicated process that involves transporting things in the most optimal way possible. Our modern society relies upon the timely and coordinated delivery of products of all kinds.
Your objective in this jam is to create a game where the player must oversee a logistics operation. A classic example of the logistic-simulation genre is Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe, a game which tasks the player with coordinating planes, trains, and automobiles with the sole objective of moving as many goods as possible. Another game that contains an emphasis on carefully-planned logistics is Factorio, which tasks the player in laying out elaborate conveyor lines to create the most efficient factory possible.
You cannot start working on your game until the 10-day submission period. After the submission period is over, a two-day voting period will take place, during which participants are encouraged to vote on each other's games. During the voting period, you will not be allowed to edit your submission.
Games will be judged on two criteria: Overall execution, and how creative your implementation is. There are no rewards for winners; voting is purely for fun.
Teams are allowed, but should ideally be no more than 5 people.
