Welcome to the first Middlesex University Games Design game jam of the academic year! The idea of the game jam is for students to spend a week (Monday 30th October to Friday 3rd November) producing a digital or tabletop game based on an established prompt. You can work individually or in teams, and the scope of the final entry is entirely at your discretion. At the end of the week, you will submit evidence of your game to this page. Entries will be voted on during the following week, and a number of prizes will be awarded to winning games!

This year’s prompt is stay tuned. Your interpretation of this prompt can be as literal or figurative as you like, and could inspire any aspect of design (i.e. genre, gameplay, mechanics, themes, narrative, setting, aesthetics). The format of the final entry will depend on the nature of the game you have developed; we are happy to receive anything from digital prototypes produced in Unity and Twine URLs to photographs and videos of a tabletop play test session.

Whether you choose to work individually or as part of a larger development team, you can gain some support both on-campus and online throughout the week from lecturers and peers. The MDX Games Design Discord server has proven to be an excellent resource during past game jams, and you may also be able to call upon the assistance of alumni who have a great deal of experience making games in a very short period of time!

The game jam is a great opportunity to develop your game design skills and build some additional games for your portfolio in a fun, low-pressure environment. It also allows you to get to know some of the other students across all three years of the Games Design programmes and plant the seeds for future collaborations.
