ONE OF US IS ARTIFICIAL

📅 SUBMISSIONS OPEN UNTIL AUGUST 17, 2026

🧪 Welcome to the Lab

Mauspi Lab Jam is a bimonthly themed showcase for games that use generative artificial intelligence as a meaningful part of their creative process.

We believe AI can help independent developers prototype faster, explore unfamiliar creative territory, overcome production limits and transform ambitious ideas into playable experiences.

This is not a traditional development sprint.
Your project does not need to be created during the submission period. Existing games, public demos, prototypes and works in progress are welcome.

THIS EDITION'S THEME

🤖 ONE OF US IS ARTIFICIAL

Your game must include at least one artificial character whose nature meaningfully affects the experience.

The character may be an artificial intelligence, android, robot, synthetic consciousness, virtual assistant, generated personality, digital imitation or another recognizable reflection of the current AI boom.

They may be the protagonist, the antagonist, a secondary character or even an indirect presence influencing the events of the game.

What should their artificial nature affect?

  • 📖 The story or central conflict
  • ⚙️ A mechanic or game system
  • 🧠 The player's decisions
  • 💬 Relationships between characters
  • 👁️ The interpretation of the world
  • 🚪 The ending or consequences
Surprised Pikachu reaction

When the harmless tutorial assistant says it remembers your previous save file.

⚠️ A decorative robot is not enough.

A toaster with glowing eyes does not automatically count as an important artificial character.

Unless the toaster ruins somebody's life. Then we can talk.

Horror, comedy, romance, adventure, puzzle, simulation, visual novel, experimental game and every strange combination between them are welcome.

✨ Why Generative AI?

Generative AI is the central focus of Mauspi Lab Jam because we are interested in what these tools make possible for solo developers and small teams.

AI can help someone build a system they could not program alone, prototype an unusual visual direction, develop characters, compose music, test a mechanic, translate a game or finally turn a long-standing idea into something playable.

We are not looking for the project that generated the largest amount of content.
We are looking for the project where AI most effectively strengthens a human creative vision.
💻 Programming and debugging ✍️ Writing and worldbuilding
🎲 Mechanics and game systems 🎨 Visual art and animation
🎵 Music, sound and voices 🔬 Testing, localization and production

Participants must explain which tools they used, what they used them for, what the tools produced, how those results were selected or transformed and which creative decisions remained in human hands.

Basic spellchecking, simple autocomplete or one isolated question with no meaningful influence on the project does not satisfy this requirement.

When AI fixes the bug but also creates three new endings and a religion inside the save system.

🏆 How Projects Will Be Evaluated

🤖

AI as a Creative Catalyst

PRIMARY CRITERION

How effectively did generative AI expand what the creator or team was able to build, express or explore?

🔍

Theme Integration

How meaningfully does the artificial character influence the story, mechanics, relationships, decisions or world?

🎮

Overall Experience

How successfully do the design, writing, visuals, audio and playability work together?

🧪Mauspi Jam collection🏆

One eligible project will receive this honorary recognition for the most creative, meaningful and well-integrated use of generative artificial intelligence.

The selected game will be featured in the official Mauspi Lab Jam collection and highlighted in the Mauspi Lab itch.io feed.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Does my game need to be made during the submission period?

Can I submit a commercial game?

Yes, provided that a free playable version remains available throughout the evaluation period.

Can my game have participated in other events?

Yes. Previous participation in jams, festivals and showcases is allowed.

Can I submit a game in Spanish?

Yes. Games may be submitted in English or Spanish.

Does using more AI improve my score?
