About Master Bug Game Jam:
This is a biannual game jam for Game Design Master Program of Bahçeşehir University Game Lab ( BUG ). Jam takes place in Istanbul at BUG Lab where students are encouraged to collaborate with classmates and BUG partners to make games in 36 hours.
About Master BUG Jam 2:
This jam's theme was Minimal. Students received following briefing:
YOU can interpret "minimal" as in Form. Design. Visuals. Audio. Experience. Expression. Feelings. Story. Gameplay. Controls. Assets. Development. Production.
YOU can make narrative-based games that are inspired by Haiku (Japanese poetry style), or two-sentence horror stories, or whatever style you want.!
Using the least amount of words to have the most amount of IMPACT is a good approach. IMAGINE the impact of these sentences:
- There's nothing like the laughter of a baby. Unless it's 1 a.m. and you're home alone.
- She asked why I was breathing so heavily. I wasn't.
- There was a picture in my phone of me sleeping. I live alone.
YOU can make games that have a minimalistic gameplay.
YOU can inspire from games which can be played in short sessions; games which have little control options, or games which take place in small environments, etc.
YOU can approach "minimal" in the aesthetic aspect of your game. Pixel art, flat design, minimal graphics and/or sound effects can be used.
TRY to apply the "minimal" concept also on your production.
DON'T start with the complex.
Don't aim to achieve the COMPLEX at the end.
EVALUATE minimalistic ideas, iterate, and try to have a solid gameplay!
