I don't wanna see your idea for a game. I wanna see you create a game, directed by a young person in your life. Your little cousin, your little sister, your brother's step-son, the eldest of your fraternal twins -- whoever Trevor. Someone who wouldn't usually have the skills or opportunity to make their own game. But lucky for them, you do!

  • As much as possible, let the young person be the decision-makers on the story, mechanics of the game.
  • You are the person who turns their ideas into reality.
  • Treat your young co-creator like they are a genius! Remember to be kind, be positive, be a supportive good role-model.
  • Of course, you can only try your best to make their ideas possible. Work within your limited time, skills, whatever - just do your best with what you can... Relinquish creative control and have fun!

You may like to start by asking your young co-creator...
"If you could come up with a name for a brand new video game, what might it be?'
...and then ask follow up questions from there.

The definition of young person is just relative to yourself. If your 27 y/o daughter is a young person to you, so be it! The main thing is that your co-creator doesn't usually have the opportunity to make a game themselves. If this goes well, we can do one for grandparents or something. Or, if you don't know any young people, ask your folks or your grandparents for this jam anyway - you ain't gonna get in trouble!

Remember one thing: a great process and great experience is more important than a great outcome.
