Make & Play — Game Jam

Make & Play is a creative game jam for developers, artists, and designers who want to turn ideas into playable games in a short time. Whether you build something experimental, funny, spooky, cozy, or completely unexpected – the goal is simple: create, test, and share your game with others.

Who is this jam for?

Everyone is welcome – from beginners who want to finish their first small game, to experienced devs who want to experiment with new mechanics or art styles. You can join solo or form a small team; the jam is designed to be relaxed and fun, not strict or performance‑focused.

Theme

Build it. Break it. Play it.

This theme is about creation and interaction. Your game should involve making, assembling, shaping, modifying, or improving something, and then letting the player experience the result in a fun or surprising way.

You can take it literally (building systems, crafting, puzzles, etc.), mechanically (procedural generation, destruction, sandbox elements), or even narratively (repairing a broken world, fixing relationships, rewinding time). The theme is intentionally broad so that you can interpret it in any genre: platformer, puzzle, horror, narrative, runner, shooter, or something completely weird.

Basic Rules

During the jam, you can:

  • Use any game engine or tools you are comfortable with (Unity, Godot, GameMaker, custom engine, etc.).
  • Use existing code libraries, as long as the actual game is created during the jam.
  • Use free / CC‑licensed assets if you like, but custom or modified art is encouraged.
  • Post screenshots, gifs, or short videos to show your progress.

Things that are not allowed:

  • Submitting a fully finished game that you had already completed or published before the jam.
  • Directly copying another game’s design and mechanics without a clear twist or redesign.

How to Join

To participate, you only need:

  • A game engine or tools you feel comfortable with.
  • An idea that fits the theme Build it. Break it. Play it..
  • A place to upload your build (itch.io, GitHub, your own server, etc.).

After the jam, the games will be collected, played, and rated – depending on setup: via community voting, small jury, or simply as a shared session to test everyone’s creations.
